Blue Water Oral Surgery Center (BWOSC) would like to thank everyone for your patience and flexibility as Dr. Harrelson was required to be out of the office several days last month to fulfill his duties with the American Dental Association and to receive the honor of being inducted into the prestigious American College of Dentists!

As you may know, the ADA is the association of all the dentists in America that serves as the powerful, collective voice of all dentists unified as one. The power in numbers and in a unified voice allows for the ADA to have more influence when speaking toward issues nationwide and worldwide and in lobbying to Congress for issues that are important to dentists, specialists, and you as our patients. To get to that unified voice amongst the many voices of different dentists from different states, the ADA House of Delegates is an important mechanism to allow all to speak on the House Floor, in Reference Committees leading up to the House of Delegates, and in individual District Caucuses. Dr. H serves as one of the delegates representing the state of Florida (the 17th District) at the House of Delegates.

The American College of Dentists is an honor society for invited Fellows that must be nominated and voted on by current members (in secrecy of the nominations/nominators so that each invited Fellow is measured on his/her own merits and accomplishments and not based on who nominated the Fellow) of the College based on demonstration of professionalism, ethics in dentistry, and community service. Only about 3% of dentists in the nation are invited to become Fellows of the College. Dr. H was extremely honored and grateful to have been nominated and invited into the American College of Dentists. He was inducted as a Fellow at the Convocation in Washington, DC last month.

We are so very grateful for all the Veterans that have put others first and served our country. Veterans are so very special!

Today, our staff has done it again celebrating our favorite veteran, Dr. H! He's the true epitome of putting others first even when it is an inconvenience to himself. I'm sure you can tell but we think he hung the moon!

Happy Veteran's Day to all those near and far! Thank you!

PS....Isn't Joce so talented! She made these incredible balloon towers and had them ready for him this morning when he arrived! We have the best staff in the WORLD! THANKS JOCE AND THANKS TEAM! You rock!

Our office will be closed Wednesday, October 22nd through Wednesday, October 29th for the ADA(American Dental Association) Convention in Washington, DC.

Dr. Harrelson has always supported organized dentistry. From being the national president of the 2006 American Student Dental Association (ASDA) during dental school to now being a delegate on the House of Delegates at the ADA Convention in Washington, DC. He's also being inducted as a fellow this weekend into the American College of Dentists, a high honor. (www.acd.org)

We're so excited and thankful for this incredible opportunity.

We look forward to returning to the office on October 30th. For our established patients, you can always call our after hours number for dental emergencies. We can't wait to see and serve you soon!

If you know the Harrelsons...you know that they LOVE live theatre at the Emerald Coast Theatre Company! It was time to pick a new winner for 2 free tickets to a show for Season 13!

Congratulations to our patient, Audrey Jones, and her sister Mary Jones (also a patient who didn't win but was selected by Audrey to share her second ticket...so she does actually win in the end!) for winning two tickets to see The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams. He was an American playwright and screenwriter who is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. Some of his plays including The Glass Menagerie along with A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are among the most acclaimed Broadway dramas.

Have fun, ladies!!!!

(Interesting fact: Tennessee Williams was from Columbus, Mississippi, which is 15 minutes from where Dr. H was born and grew up. Dr. H's brother, Dr. Benjamin Harrelson, is a general dentist in Columbus, Mississippi.)

We're in AWE of our staff when they choose to do EXTRA things that we don't ask of them. That's what makes our team AMAZING!!! Check out this guy tho!!!!

Let me introduce you to one of the talents of our most creative staff team member....Joce Durette's creativity! She daily goes above and beyond. We spotlight her this month for choosing to use her own time and talents to create this incredible pumpkin display to enter our team into a contest for a free lunch! Plus...this Olaf will have a straight tooth...now that he has a brace. (aka braces).

Reminds me of 1 Peter 4:10 and encourages all of us to use the gifts we've been given to bless those around us. WTG Joce!

Dr Harrelson spent the weekend pulling teeth in a very basic temporary pop-up dental clinic through the awesome organization, Remote Area Medical - RAM. What a breath of fresh air through the joy of helping others! We're so proud of your heart for others, Dr. H. You make us proud EVERY.SINGLE.DAY!

If only Dr. Harrelson could see this on FB....but FB hackers are stinky cavities that should be extracted. Do better Meta.

We LOVE our patients to our core and it breaks our hearts to have to deliver a cancer diagnosis.

Friendly reminder to get your oral cancer screening completed at each 6 month dental visit. If your general dentist sees something or you feel something out of the ordinary, please come see us! Early detection is KEY! Our staff is dedicated to creating space in our schedule for YOU!
