Fun fact before I was 30 yrs old, I was on over 2 pages of prescriptive medications to manage my chronic illness & symptoms. & I still remember the day my provider told me I’d be on those same medications for life.

In my late 20’s most of my time was spent at home exhausted, anxious, and feeling like I was on my death bed. Nothing was working and I watching my life slip away. The message from my health care team was clear… they didn’t know how to help other than to continue to manage my symptoms with pills.

But something in me couldn’t accept that.

That’s when I found integrative medicine, and it didn’t just help me manage. It helped me heal. I got off all my medications. I got my life back. And I discovered my true calling.

Now, as an Acupuncture Physician and Functional Medicine Practitioner, I help women who feel exactly how I once did; stuck, unheard, and told their only option is to “just deal with it.”

“It’s just perimenopause.” Every. Single. Doctor. 🙃

I was rapidly gaining weight, constantly nauseous, anxious, and forgetting everything.
My cycles were all over the place and the pain was unreal.

Primary care.
OBGYN.
Endocrinologist.
Same answer every time: perimenopause

Same plan every time: monitor it
No treatment. No roadmap. Just follow-ups.

Meanwhile… my labs were getting chaotic.
The only option offered?
👉 Start a GLP-1.

I was mad.
I was stubborn.
I was convinced I could fix it myself.
So I did what a lot of us do:
Whole foods
Supplements
Protocols
Tracking calories
Movement
Doing everything “right”
And yet… the weight kept piling on.

Finally, a functional medicine friend gently said:
“What if you micro-dose a GLP-1/GIP… just to calm the inflammation? Not forever. Just to give your body a break.”
She also suggested progesterone cream because my levels were tanked.
Reluctantly… I said yes.

And wow.
Here’s what happened 👇
• Blood pressure came down
• Histamine intolerance eased
• Puffy, swollen eyes disappeared
• Anxiety vanished
• Sleep normalized
• I dropped 10 lbs of pure inflammation
• Labs started normalizing
• Cycles became painless and regular again (28 days 😭🙌)

As a functional medicine doctor, here’s what I wish every perimenopausal woman knew about weight loss:

If you’re doing everything “right”, eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep, and the scale still won’t budge, it’s probably not about willpower. It might come down to hormones, inflammation, and/or gut health.

For me personally, I had to get inflammation in check before the scale started moving. No amount of calorie counting or extra cardio made a difference until I addressed what was happening beneath the surface.

The truth is, perimenopause changes the rules. Your body isn’t broken, it’s just playing by a different set of instructions now. And once you understand what’s really driving weight resistance, you can finally work with your body instead of against it.

4 things that worked for me to lower inflammation:
1 Slowing down on cardio and HIIT, and adding in weighted walks and weight lifting
2 Focusing on foods that helped stabilize blood sugarr this included going dry from alcohol
3 Adding in peptides + microdosing Tirzepatide to assist with lowering inflammation (something I was totally against until I realized I couldn’t do it on my own)
4 Adding in BHRT based on my perimenopause symptoms

So far I’m down 10 lbs without changing anything else, and the journey is continuing.

“I never thought I’d micro-dose a GLP-1, but here’s what happened when I did.

As a functional medicine doctor, I was supposed to have all the answers. But I was living proof that sometimes working out harder and eating cleaner isn’t enough.

My body was screaming at me through:
