Dragonfly Counseling and Consulting is excited to announce that we are hiring another Licensed Child & Adolescent Therapist to join our team!

At Dragonfly, we are passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where children, teens, and families feel seen, heard, and empowered. As the need for youth mental health services continues to grow, we are looking for a compassionate clinician who is dedicated to helping young clients navigate challenges such as anxiety, emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, and life transitions .

This role is ideal for a licensed therapist (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) who has experience—or a strong passion—for working with children and adolescents (ages 5 and up). The position includes providing individual and family therapy, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with caregivers to support each child’s growth and well-being .

At Dragonfly Counseling and Consulting, you’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive environment that values authenticity, professional growth, and meaningful connection. ✨Meet the Co-Founders of Dragonfly Counseling & Consulting✨

Sarah and Maria’s story began nearly 20 years ago, when they first crossed paths and quickly built a strong connection that would grow into a lifelong friendship. For 16 years, they worked side by side in a hospital setting, supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging and vulnerable moments. Those years shaped not only their clinical expertise, but also their shared belief that people deserve compassionate, personalized care in environments where they feel truly seen and supported.

Over time, Sarah and Maria recognized a need for something more—something beyond the traditional systems they had worked within. They envisioned a space rooted in connection, authenticity, and growth. That vision became Dragonfly Counseling & Consulting: a place created with intention, where individuals can feel safe, empowered, and encouraged to embrace change at their own pace.

At the heart of Dragonfly is the belief that transformation is possible for everyone. Just as the dragonfly symbolizes change, resilience, and self-realization, Sarah and Maria are passionate about helping others navigate their own journeys toward becoming the best version of themselves. 🎉 Meet Our New Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner! 🎉
We’re so excited to welcome Jessica Compton, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC to our team!
Jessica works with children, teens, and adults, providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for concerns like anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and more. With over 10 years of experience in behavioral health, she takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach and believes mental health care should always feel personal, collaborative, and supportive.
Jessica is a U.S. Army veteran and the spouse of a retired Navy service member, giving her a special understanding of the unique needs of military members, veterans, and their families. Her goal is simple: to make sure you feel heard, supported, and confident in your care every step of the way.

We’ve got signage! This has been a year and a half in the making and we are so excited to see the patience and energy pay off 🩵

We’ve officially graduated from “the place in the bank” and have some more exciting announcements in the near future - stay tuned!

We are accepting new clients 5+ for therapy and medication management, accept most commercial insurances and are located here in the heart of Great Bridge. We are so proud to serve the community of Hampton Roads and appreciate the opportunity to do so every day 🩵

Sometimes, thinking can cause more harm than good for us. Have you ever found yourself thinking into a hole of more stress and anxiety?

I *think* I should be doing better…I *think* it’s going to turn out poorly…I *think* people don’t approve of my actions…I *think* I am not as good as those other people…or any other roller coaster your mind might try to take you on.

The next time you find yourself filling your thoughts with “thinks,” try to step back, re-evaluate and identify the “knows.” What do you KNOW to be true:

✨Fact check the situation - emotions removed, what are the facts
✨Acknowledge what you know you are doing well and give yourself credit
✨Avoid catastrophizing and adding details that aren’t factually there
✨Stay in the present - if you stress about possible outcomes in the future, you are putting yourself in a position to stress twice about something that only happens once
✨Focus on your wins and what is going well - keep a record if that helps!

Life can be hard enough without our thoughts trying to make things harder! Focus on what you know, remember the facts and go after what you want because you deserve it 🩵
