Today we celebrate Juneteenth, with a day of reflection of our history. So we can continue to do and be better for our future.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Dating back to June 19, 1865, Juneteenth marks the day when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the freedom of enslaved African Americans. While the Civil War had ended two months prior, news of emancipation hadn’t reached all enslaved people, particularly those in remote areas of the Confederacy. Juneteenth became a day of celebration for Black communities across the country, a day to honor their ancestors’ resilience and to celebrate their newfound freedom.

What is the role of NP in hospice care?
A nurse is a nurse and I am a nurse. I am going to do whatever I need to do to be part of the team and help take care of the patient. Nurse practitioners in hospice are a conduit for a patient's ever-changing medical condition, helping ensure each person is able to get the care they need, when they need it.
