Day of the Dead (Día de los Mu***os) is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. Rather than a time of mourning, it’s a joyful celebration of life and memory, filled with music, food, and color. Families create altars (ofrendas) decorated with photos, candles, marigolds, sugar skulls, and favorite foods of the departed. The belief is that during these days, the spirits return to visit the living, drawn by love, light, and familiar scents.

Samhain marks the thinning of the veil. The broom (or besom) is both a tool of clearing and invitation — sweeping away the old to make room for new beginnings.

This blend embodies grounding, protection, and sacred remembrance while being gentle enough to use around horses, dogs, and cats (when properly diluted and used in space, not directly on animals).

🕯️ How to Use

For your broom (besom) ritual:
1. In a 10 ml bottle, mix the blend above with 1 tablespoon jojoba or fractionated coconut oil.
2. Lightly anoint your broom bristles and handle with a drop or two of the oil — especially before a Samhain ritual or home cleansing.
3. As you sweep (energetically or physically), say:
“I clear what’s old, I call what’s true,
By light and dark, my path renew.”

Optional:
Diffuse 2–3 drops of the blend in your ritual space while meditating, creating your ancestor altar, or preparing your Samhain meal.

Today is the Animal Day of the Dead (Día de los Mu***os for pets)!

For celebrating the day, essential oils can be used to create a calming, sacred, and respectful atmosphere. Here are some oils that are both symbolic and safe to diffuse around pets (in moderation):

🌼 Symbolic & Safe Essential Oils

1. Frankincense – Associated with spirituality and remembrance.
2. Lavender – Calming and soothing; promotes peace and reflection.
3. Cedarwood – Earthy and grounding; symbolizes connection to nature and ancestors.
4. Chamomile – Gentle and comforting; good for emotional healing.
5. Rose – Represents love and devotion; ideal for honoring beloved pets.
6. Marigold (Tagetes) – Traditional flower of Día de los Mu***os; while not commonly available as an essential oil, its scent can be mimicked with blends.

🐾 Tips for Using Essential Oils Around Pets

• Use a diffuser in a well-ventilated area.
• Avoid direct contact with pets’ skin or fur.
• Keep oils out of reach of animals.
• Observe your pet’s behavior—if they seem uncomfortable, discontinue use.
