Sometimes the friend you confide in doesn’t offer the support and reassurance you deserve.

Thank you, Rena, for sharing your MeToo story, and helping remove the stigma.

In*******al marriages make up around 11% of marriages in the US today. It wasn’t too long ago when they were considered illegal.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Loving Day, which commemorates the Supreme Court’s 1967 decision legalizing in*******al marriage. Change CAN happen.

Thank you, Matt and Natasha, for sharing your story.

Communication “rules” can be all over the place. Some make sense, while others might not.

There can also be differences when it comes Deaf and hearing cultural “rules”, gender “rules”, professional “rules”, and so on.

Thank you, Savannah, for telling it straight from your POV.

Sharenting = sharing & parenting. The term
generally refers to oversharing personal information and pictures/videos of children on social media.

Of course, parents (as well as caregivers, grandparents, and anyone with children in their lives) enjoy sharing about their children. It’s important to keep in mind that this seemingly innocent practice can eventually come back to hurt children in different ways.

Research shows that sharenting can impact mental health, creating anxiety and depression, in addition to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. Identity theft of children’s data is also a huge risk. In some situations, the parent is sharing for their own benefit, without considering how the constant online exposure affects their children. An example would be a parent posting excessively in order to earn money from hits on social media.

It is encouraging that parents want access and want to understand their children. At the same time, it reveals a deeper challenge. Many families still do not share a common language at home.

Interpreters can support communication in therapy, yet the most important conversations between parents and Deaf children should not depend on a third person. When families learn American Sign Language, communication becomes direct, natural, and emotionally meaningful.

If you are raising a Deaf child, learning ASL early can strengthen trust, connection, and emotional development. Learn ASL so you can talk directly with your Deaf children while they are growing up. Those years of connection matter.

If your family is looking for Deaf therapy, Deaf counseling, or ASL-fluent therapists, services are available nationwide through Deaf Counseling Center. Our licensed Deaf clinicians provide therapy in American Sign Language and offer teletherapy across the United States.

Did you know that anxiety is the most common mental health issue in the world? In the US, almost 20% of adults deal with clinical-level anxiety, with women reporting anxiety more than twice as often as men.

It’s not surprising then, that there are endless treatment suggestions for managing anxiety, including medication, vitamins, meditation, exercise, cognitive-behavioral therapy, etc.

Aubrie, thank you for sharing how traveling has impacted your anxiety in a positive way.
