If you have a low back ache, try this and see if it helps to alleviate your pain by compressing and stretching the glutes muscles and fascia.
Very easy and no tools needed, or actually your hands are the tools.

Lie down on your back and place your hands by the sacral bone ( triangle shaped bone below the low back). Slowly rotate your legs side to side. The legs can be straight or the knees bent. Even small movements can be effective. If you can move more, you can massage the side of the glutes, which are often tight but we don't notice. The hand can be open or you can make a soft fist.
You can try this at bedtime, and your body will be more relaxed for a good night sleep😴

*this is not recommended if you have weak bones, wrist or hand issues. Always ask your doctor if you have health concerns before trying a new exercise!

Have you heard about dry brushing? Dry brushing is a very gentle yet powerful way to stimulate your lymphatic system to facilitate circulation in your body. I can help you to go over how to do this and share some of Youtube videos I can recommend.

The Power of Dry Brushing: A Scientific Look at an Ancient Self-Care Practice
✨🧼🩷🌿🧠🫀

Dry brushing, also known as cutaneous brushing or skin brushing, is an age-old technique that involves using a firm-bristled brush on dry skin in specific strokes—often directed toward the heart. While it may appear simple, the physiological effects of dry brushing are profound, especially for your lymphatic system, skin health, and detoxification.

Let’s dive into the science-backed benefits of this beautiful ritual!

1. Stimulating the Lymphatic System

💧🌀💚

At the heart of dry brushing’s magic is its power to activate the lymphatic system, which helps:
• Drain excess fluid
• Remove toxins and waste
• Transport immune cells
• Support detox via lymph nodes

Dry brushing gently stimulates the superficial lymphatic capillaries under the skin, helping move stagnant lymph fluid and supporting detoxification.

Fun Fact: The lymphatic system has no pump like the heart. It relies on movement and stimulation (like dry brushing!) to flow effectively.

2. Enhancing Circulation & Skin Glow

🩸✨🧴

Dry brushing boosts microcirculation, bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to the skin while supporting cell regeneration and healing. It also:
• Increases blood flow
• Brightens the skin
• Promotes a youthful glow

Expect smoother, softer skin with regular brushing!

3. Supporting Detoxification Pathways

♻️🧽🫧

Your skin is a major detox organ! Dry brushing helps:
• Remove dead skin cells
• Unclog pores
• Activate sweat and oil glands

By clearing the way for your skin to “breathe,” dry brushing supports your body’s ability to eliminate waste naturally.

4. Stimulating the Nervous System

⚡🧠🧘‍♀️

Brushing activates nerve endings in the skin, which sends signals to the brain. This enhances:
• Mental alertness
• Endorphin release
• A natural energy boost

It’s like a gentle wake-up call to your body!

5. Strengthening Skin Immunity

🛡️🧬🧼

By improving skin turnover and barrier function, dry brushing supports:
• A healthy acid mantle (your skin’s protective film)
• Reduced transepidermal water loss
• Lower risk of skin irritation or infection

Organs That Indirectly Benefit from Dry Brushing

🫁🫀🧠🦴🧠
1. Liver: Less toxic load = better liver function
2. Kidneys: Easier filtration and metabolic balance
3. Gut: Supports fat absorption and immune modulation
4. Lungs: Reduces fluid congestion
5. Skin: Better tone, texture, and detox

How to Dry Brush Properly

🪥🧴🧖‍♀️
• Use a natural bristle brush (avoid synthetic)
• Brush toward your heart in long, sweeping motions
• Start from feet → arms → abdomen → chest
• Avoid broken, sensitive, or inflamed areas
• Best done before showering, followed by hydrating oil or lotion

Conclusion

Dry brushing isn’t just a skincare ritual—it’s a cellular stimulant, immune supporter, and lymph-moving powerhouse. It’s a low-cost, time-friendly tool that enhances your circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems all at once.

So grab your brush, take a deep breath, and give your body the love and flow it deserves!

You have bunions? You need this!
And active foot can help with balance and prevent falls!

I posted a short video about foot exercise before, making rock, paper, scissors with the foot. If you have difficulty opening your toes, especially the big toe, you can try this little trick. You can stabilize the big toe on the floor (sticking the toe to the floor) and change the foot angle to make some space between toes. I used to do this often after retiring from ballet because I was not able move the big toe outward, and my bunions were painful - Not any more since my toe movements got better.

I think the foot movement is very important to be able to walk/exercise in the right way, feel the weight shifting as you move, and help with balance issues you might encouter.
These small little tricks will help us to keep all the body parts active and stay healthy in a long run.

I offer massage because everyone needs comfort and safe place. Our lives can be filled with joy, but also we all experience aches and pain. When we have concerns and become anxious, our bodies tighten and become tense. We need a place we can relax and take care of our most important thing - our body. That will help us to think more clearly and lead to better actions. We can care for others in a positive manner.

Everyone is different and unique, but I also notice we are the same, we all exist on this beautiful planet. When I give a massage, I care each person's needs and try to understand and find what could be good for each one of them. But at the same time, I see the skin, feel the muscles and the bones. I just see a human body, everyone is the same. We just all live, want to reduce pain and be comfortable. It seems so simple, but it is very difficult.

Here at my place, every client is treated equally. You can come here just the way you are. We need a safe place and care, and that is what I offer in my room.

Subtle upgrade to the hospice massage with essential oil on cotton balls today ( family is ok with that) My clients liked it 😊
It is such an honor to volunteer for hospice clients on this Christmas Eve.

If you have a chance to see family members you haven't seen for a while, remember that just a little touch could become such a wonderful memory to someone. Light hand massage is generally safe if people can move their hands. Just slow gentle strokes from you will give them warm feelings and comfort.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday.

When did you moved your toes last time?
I am posting pictures of my foot...well, it is important to keep our foot healthy! - added bonus, you can see the retired ballet dancer's foot.

A few month after I stopped dancing in a professional ballet company, I was very surprised when I looked down my foot. I suddenly noticed that my foot became just a "foot" without any details, no small tendons and muscles were noticeable anymore. Since then I make efforts to move my toes more.

I think moving the toes freely improves circulation and helps with the balance when we walk and move around as well.
We can try " Rock, Paper, Scissors" with our toes. Just opening toes, pulling and stretching each toe with you hand feels really nice too. Don't be discouraged if they don't move very much. They will start moving more if you try little bit every day.
It gets colder outside and holidays are coming up so we might miss our routine workout. But we can still be active, even small toe exercise can help!

One of the important reasons I became a massage therapist was to offer massages to clients who are in hospice care. Eventhough I am not a hospice nurse, I had the honor to provide care to patients at the end of their lives as a nurse. I felt very strongly about the need of comfort for people who are close to their final stages of their lives.
I wanted them to know that we care, respect, and honor them. I wanted them to feel like... it feels nice, you see, my life wasn't bad, it was good because I am getting a gentle massage and it feels good...

If you know anyone who might benefit from my massage service, please share the information. I offer reduced pricing for hospice clients and their caregivers. I am willing to make payment plans because sometimes it cannot wait...
Sometimes even family members are afraid of touching people who are dying. I can teach family members how to touch their loved ones if they would like. After all, that is the most important touch anyone can receive.

Thank you,
Akiko
