I wanted to share a few award-winning images from our recent Image Challenge and take a moment to recognize the hard work behind them.

And, check back tomorrow for more!

Great photographs do not usually happen by accident. They come from learning how to see, how to use light, how to compose with intention, how to solve problems, and how to keep improving even when the process gets frustrating.

Students are not just learning camera settings. They are learning how to think like photographers, how to make creative decisions, and how to build the confidence to create work with purpose.

I am very proud of the dedication our students bring to their work, and these images are a beautiful reminder of what can happen when talent, effort, education, and persistence come together.

Congratulations to our Image Challenge award winners, and to all of the students who continue to push themselves.

Please share this post and help us celebrate their work.

The Black Keys: PEACHES ’N KREAM World Tour at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino on May 8, 2026

Friday night was my first time seeing and photographing The Black Keys, and they were absolutely fantastic.

Gritty, bluesy, tight, and full of raw rock and roll energy. Kinda reminds you how good two people with serious chemistry can be when they have the right players around them.

A great night at the OLG Stage.

And Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely, beautiful mothers out there doing the hardest job ever.

My photograph of the Harvest Moon made a couple of years ago. Captured with a Nikon 400mm and a 1.4 teleconverter.

Last night, NASA’s Artemis II crew travelled around the far side of the Moon, disappeared behind it during a planned blackout, came within about 4,070 miles of the surface, and emerged again with an Earthrise.

One of the best phrases I've heard with this mission is the lunar sphere of influence: the point where the Moon’s gravity exerts a stronger pull on the spacecraft than Earth’s.

The Moon has presence. Force. Gravity. It quietly changes the path of whatever comes near it.

Just before the "loss of signal", Pilot Victor Glover had a message for the people of Earth.
"As we prepare to go out of radio communication, we're still going to feel your love from Earth. And to all of you down there on Earth and around Earth, we love you, from the Moon. We will see you on the other side."

Open House is tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lambton College.
If you’re curious about photography, thinking about building your skills, or wondering whether photography could become part of your future, tomorrow is a great day to stop by.
I’ll be in the main building with a display of student photographs, and our studio will be open as well. If you’d like to speak with me about the photography program, career options, equipment, or what the program has to offer, I’d be very happy to chat.
These portraits are just a small sampling of student work I happened to have on hand, but they show something I truly love about our program: many students begin with limited experience, and by the end of first year they are creating strong, professional-looking images.
Our students learn the foundations of photography, but they’re also encouraged to pursue what excites them most, whether that’s portraiture, fashion, product, sports, wildlife, or more.
I’m also incredibly proud that all of our instructors are working photographers, teaching from real-world experience.
And one added bonus for Open House: the college is waiving the registration fee for students who enrol in a program.
Come say hello. I’d love to meet you.

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Phil Campbell, the longtime guitarist of Motörhead, who died on March 13, 2026 at the age of 64. For more than three decades he helped deliver the thunderous riffs that powered one of the most uncompromising bands in rock and metal!

I was fortunate to photograph Motörhead a couple of times over the years.

April 25, 2005 — The Docks, Toronto
Inferno Tour

August 13, 2008 — Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto
Metal Masters Tour — supporting the album Motörizer

I’m also posting a ticket stub from the last time I saw them live. September 12, 2005 at The Fillmore in Detroit, along with a photo pass from the Docks show.

In their tribute, the Motörhead family wrote:
“Phil was a wonderful guitarist, writer, performer and musician who had Motörhead in his veins… he led with his gift of guitar, a great sense of humour, and above all with his heart.”

Motörhead was never subtle and never meant to be. That was the beauty of it. Phil Campbell’s guitar helped define that sound for more than three decades.

Rest in peace, Phil.

If you ever saw Motörhead live, you know exactly what I mean. Feel free to share your favourite memory of Phil or the band below.

A couple weeks late posting these, but some moments are worth revisiting. On February 20, 2026, the legendary Bruce Cockburn took the stage at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino, with Julian Taylor opening the night.

Julian Taylor was a fantastic choice to start the evening. His warm voice and thoughtful songwriting quickly pulled the crowd in and set the tone for the night, getting the room fully engaged before Cockburn ever stepped on stage.

Bruce Cockburn delivered exactly what you’d hope for from one of Canada’s great songwriters: thoughtful lyrics, that unmistakable guitar style, and a setlist that pulled from decades of music. Songs like “The Trouble With Normal,” “King of the Bolero,” “Call It Democracy,” and “Waiting for a Miracle” reminded everyone why his catalogue has such lasting power. His playing is always fascinating to watch up close, intricate and rhythmic.

For me, photographing Bruce always carries a bit of personal history. The very first time I ever photographed him was when I was still in college studying photography. Decades later, standing back at Fallsview, camera in hand, it felt like a full-circle moment. It’s a real honour to document artists whose music has meant so much to so many people for so long.

Boy George and Culture ClubOLG Stage, Fallsview Casino Resort, Niagara Falls,March 5, 2026

What a show.
I had never seen Boy George or Culture Club live before Thursday night at Fallsview, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Within minutes, it became clear why this band has endured for more than four decades.
Boy George sounded fantastic, his voice strong and unmistakable, and the band behind him was incredibly tight.
The backing vocals were powerful, and the groove never let up. All in all, joyful and energetic.
From a photographer’s perspective, it was one of those nights that remind me why I love this job so much. The colour, the movement, the connection between the band and the audience, everything about the performance made it a pleasure to photograph.
Great music and a great band.
Culture Club proved that some songs never lose their magic.

No musical phenomenon has had such a profound impact on me artistically, musically and culturally as the Grateful Dead. They were a force that altered my life's trajectory in the most positive and meaningful way. Their timing in my life was perfect. That awkward transition from teenage years into adulthood suddenly had a soundtrack and a community.

The official statement on Bob's passing stated it all perfectly.
"His work did more than fill rooms with music; it was warm sunlight that filled the soul, building a community, a language, and a feeling of family that generations of fans carry with them. Every chord he played, every word he sang was an integral part of the stories he wove. There was an invitation: to feel, to question, to wander, and to belong,”

The photographs you see here I made between 1986 and 1997, spanning places and moments from Albany to Alpine Valley, Buffalo to Berkeley and many times travelling from Canada to California, years in which the band’s music became inseparable from the way I saw, heard, and made sense of the world.

You'll be missed, Bobby. 😢💔
