People who seek counseling often look for help in dealing with emotions. I usually describe emotions to them as "mad, sad, glad, or scared", then help them determine the intensity of what they feel (scaling). As people consider how much emotion they have in the moment, they can then find control of that emotion. Avoiding the emotion completely allows their feelings to be out of control, and so also the person gets out of control.

Professional Counseling is a process where an impartial person listens to a client's story, determines what the client is wanting, and then supports the client as they work to change. Some changes are long-term, as the issue being changed is long-standing. Other changes can happen in the short-term. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I work with each client in their unique space to help them better build the life they want to live in.

Shared an article yesterday with the FRESH Health Concerns Support Group my wife and I co-lead at our church: this portion is especially important.
If you feel your mental health struggles are becoming overwhelming and difficult to handle, it is important to seek help. Be prepared and know treatment is available and where to find help. You are not alone.
For a variety of local resources, connect with your state’s 211 information website or call center.
If you or someone you know needs support now, dial 988 or connect to the 988 Su***de and Crisis Lifeline online to start a chat or view resources.
Access the Veterans Crisis Line online or by dialing 988 and then pressing 1.
Work toward trading seasonal stress and frustration for holiday cheer by planning ahead and prioritizing your well-being

In the rush toward Christmas, we can go right past the significant holiday of Thanksgiving. More than eating lots of great food, Thanksgiving brings to mind having gratitude for what G-d has given us. This especially includes the important people in our past, our present, and our future. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

November and December can be busy months, with many social gatherings and emotional moments. It is okay to say no, as needed, or to limit time at an event. Setting healthy boundaries is a proper way of caring for self.

A favorite line I use with clients is "The thing I like most about exercise is when it's over". It's a good reminder that accomplishment can be a strong form of motivation.
