✨ Meet Our New Intern, Valerie ✨
We’re so excited to welcome Valerie to the Sound Mind Counseling team. She is a warm, compassionate clinician who creates an attuned, supportive space where clients feel truly seen and understood.

Valerie draws from psychodynamic, humanistic, and person-centered approaches, with a strong belief in compassion, acceptance, and our innate capacity for growth. She often uses shadow work to explore long-standing patterns, incorporates CBT when structure is helpful, and integrates mindfulness and existential principles, especially in grief and life transitions.

With experience supporting individuals through grief, dementia care, and loss, Valerie brings a calm, curious presence to her work. Currently a master’s student in Northwestern University’s Counseling program, she is deeply motivated by her own healing journey and brings kindness and steadiness to every client she meets.

In a world increasingly lived through screens, meaningful connection can feel harder to come by.

Teletherapy has opened doors to care and accessibility in powerful ways and for many, it’s essential. But what do we lose when human connection happens primarily through a screen?

In our latest blog, one of our therapists reflects on their personal journey from virtual therapy back to in-person sessions, exploring the role of nonverbal communication, shared physical presence, and fewer distractions in the therapeutic process.
