Big Miracles and Little Angels

Big Miracles and Little Angels Our family has experienced life in NICU first-hand. Our mission is to help parents of preemies by making & delivering care packages to local NICUs in NWAR.

"Big Miracles and Little Angels" is the family team name that parents Karla & Alexander have used when showing any and all support of prematurity awareness. We experienced premature birth first-hand with the birth of our twin girls - Karla & Yesenia - in 2006. They were born at 27 weeks weighing 2.4lbs & 2.2lbs. respectively. Four weeks later Yesenia passed away due to NEC. After being in the hosp

ital for 2 months, Karlie was finally able to go home. During those 2 difficult months in NICU, we went to the hospital on a daily basis and thought of nothing much but our babies. The 2 months there were very difficult - there was so much to learn, so much to grasp, and so much to endure. Because of this, we know how much of a toll it is to have your child in NICU & not be able to take him/her home with you. On November 2014, our family decided we wanted to reach out to parents of preemie babies who were currently in NICU at our local hospitals in Northwest Arkansas by making & delivering care packages letting them know they were not alone during this difficult time. We could not do this alone but we knew that if we reached out to family & friends during the holiday season, our goal of delivering 10 care packages each month would be met. Thanks to the many generous donations of items and/or money, we were able to meet our 1st goal and exceed it. We are hopeful that we can keep the momentum going & bless families every month by reaching out to different local groups for sponsorship. We could not do this without your help! Thank you & please continue spreading our mission to all your family & friends.

Happy holidays from our family to yours!

With the holiday season upon us, we are planning to continue our family project to collect and deliver care packages for NICU families in Northwest Arkansas this upcoming month.

Last year we delivered 38 care packages in December with your help. This year we are hoping to put together and deliver 50 care packages! Please help us meet our goal by donating any items from our List of Suggested Donations. Our deadline to collect all donations is December 20th so we can have time to put them together and deliver them on Christmas Day.

Here are some of the suggestions on the list:
~ Floss
~ Q-Tips
~ Toothpaste
~ Toilet Paper
~ Mouth Wash
~ Hand Sanitizer
~ Body Wash/Soap
~ Gas or Gift Cards
~ Snacks and/or Sweets
~ Chapstick and/or Lip Balm
~ Journal or Notebook & Pen
~ Water Bottles and/or Thermos
~ Lotion, preferably non-scented
~ Gift Cards for Food/Gas/Stores
~ Books, for children and/or adults
~ Tissues, travel size and/or regular size
~ Laundry Detergent, preferably non-scented
~ Caddies, baskets, and/or laundry hampers/tubs

A lot of these items are things we use on a daily basis and do not think twice about them but when families are in NICU, shopping is not really a top priority so a lot of these are really helpful to have on hand. NICU families travel to and from the hospitals on a daily basis and most of the times they go more than once so gas cards and/or gift cards to local restaurants are really helpful to them.

Last week we were blessed by the Girl Scouts Lowell Brownies Troop 5386 - We received a huge donation for our family project!! They had a drive for us while selling Girl Scout cookies! Here are some pics of them working an assembly line to fill baskets. Plus not only did we get great care package items but also 12 gift cards ranging from $10-$25 & 19 cases of Girl Scout cookies! Yes, you read that right - 19 cases of cookies which totals to 228 boxes of cookies!
This week we are working on getting them completely ready & delivered this weekend!! We are truly grateful for all your support 💖

Dear New NICU Parent...

Four years later and we're still dealing with ups and downs. We had a medical setback this week after a year of "normal"...and I feel like no one gets my fear but other NICU moms. Thank you for sharing these incredible words.
