Last week, our team at MaineHealth Stephens Hospital gathered for a flag raising ceremony in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Together, we honored the strength, courage, and hope of those affected by breast cancer and reaffirmed our commitment to prevention and early detection.

Early detection saves lives. If you’re due for your mammogram, now is the perfect time to schedule it. Regular screenings are one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early, when treatment is most successful.

What started in summer 2024 as a collaboration between MaineHealth Stephens Hospital and community partners has grown into a thriving support group for new and expecting moms thanks to the dedication of Emily Eastman, HEAL Coordinator, Healthy Oxford Hills/Community Health, and Erin Olmstead, Perinatal Outreach and Education Coordinator.

Over the past year, Bumps & Babies has:

Welcomed 113+ members online
Expanded programming to Lewiston
Begun planning for a future launch in Franklin County

To celebrate the one-year milestone, Emily and Erin hosted a fun-filled event with lunch, crafts, professional photos, raffles, and gifts for families. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our amazing partners: Maine Families, Public Health Nursing, WIC, and Community Concepts, for helping make this success possible.

Next up: Emily, Erin, and the team will present Bumps & Babies at the Nurture ME Summit on October 30, 2025, showcasing how this program is making a difference for families across Maine.

Congratulations to Sarah Craven, RN, who was recently presented with the DAISY DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Stephens. (The DAISY Award) is a national recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide for patients and families every day.

The nomination, submitted by a family member of the patient, states, "Sarah went above and beyond for my daughter and her husband with the delivery of our granddaughter. She was so committed to them and was 100% to my daughter’s needs and wants. She even was the lady to deliver our sweet granddaughter. I know for me, after losing our first granddaughter at delivery, Sarah made this one so amazing. Thank you, Sarah, from the bottom of our hearts. You took all the unknown fears and helped ease them with your cool comfort attitude.”

Please join us in celebrating Sarah’s exceptional dedication and the compassionate care she brings to our patients and families every day!
