Helping Hands For Dan

Please join us at a benefit to support Dan, a 27-year old lifelong south side resident who attended St. John Fisher and Mt. Carmel High School. A committee of Dan's family and friends are hosting this benefit to help support his rising medical expenses. On September 7th, 2011, the unimaginable happened when, Dan unexpectedly fell sick and was taken by ambulance to Rush University Medical Center. Doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumor known as Astrocytoma. Surgery was required immediately, unfortunately his surgeons were only able to remove 1/3 of the tumor while the remainder was deemed inoperable since it had grown too deeply into the brain. A follow up MRI five months later revealed an even more devastating diagnosis of a malignant Grade 3 Astrocytoma. His oncologist advised Dan that the part of the tumor that had remained in his head was continuing to grown toward the center of his brain. Since that time, Dan has undergone an additional surgery and began both radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Because of this diagnosis and the disabilities associated with the tumor, Dan lost his job as a Local 6 Laborer and is no longer employable in that industry due to the physical limitations of his condition. Additionally, Dan has put his plans for law school on hold and is facing an uncertain future without disability coverage or gainful employment. Dan is currently paying for COBRA coverage but this coupled with his living expenses isn't sustainable long term. As you can imagine, the financial ramifications of Dan's diagnosis and the subsequent expenses associated with his condition are devastating.
