Copenhagen, you were:
Beautiful 😍
Rainy ☔️
Halloween-y 🎃
Delicious 😋
Thirst quenching 🍻
Charming 🥰
Welcoming 👋
Inspirational ✨
Copenhagen is the safest city in the world, and Kevin and I both nearly cried on our walking tour when our guide told us about how humble and low key their prime minister is, and how Danes feel trust and ownership when it comes to politics. More than 80% of them vote in every election, because they understand that they all play a role in the country’s direction, and that policies impact everyone.
We walked right into their parliament building — similar to the White House in our country — without anyone checking our bags, without a metal detector, and without even paying any money. They want it to feel accessible and welcoming. (And it does.)
CAN YOU IMAGINE?
Visiting this wonderful place would make an impression any time, I’m sure, but being there right now — when it stands in SUCH stark contrast to our home country — felt incredibly sobering.
Yes, they are different from the U.S. They’re smaller and more homogeneous and their country is much older, etc. And yet there is so much we could learn from them that would make America such a better place to live into our humanity in the fullest way possible.
I am so grateful we had the opportunity to take this trip. To be with my favorite person, to learn and grow, to take in new sights and tastes and history and experiences, and to come home with a greater understanding that we shouldn’t have to settle for the status quo here.
Thank you, Copenhagen. We adore you.
