Kidney for Cindy / Cynthia Groves Orland Park, IL

Kidney for Cindy / Cynthia Groves Orland Park, IL I have been a type 1 diabetic for more than 36 years. My kidney function stayed at 60% for 20, but now it's time to get a new one. I began taking medication.

I found out I had loss of kidney function in 1993. Thru December of 2010 I stayed around 60% function, even though I had been told in 1997 I had about three years before needing a transplant. In February of 2011 the function dropped to 37% and has continued to steadily drop. Northwestern is one of only three hospitals that with a live donor they are taking stem cells too and avoiding anti rejection drugs. If the transplant is done prior to needing dialysis, it has a better outcome. Since I am AB-, I can take any blood type. A donor must be 60 years of age or younger and have NO decrease in kidney function. If interested, as your dr. to run a GFR test. After that my insurance will pay for all testing, doctors and hospital stay. Donors normally off work for two weeks. Thank you.
