Cultivating cottage in a world of curve balls

Life can call us to be brave and have courage at unexpected times. Courage isn’t just something we call on in our hardest moments—it’s something we practice in how we love, communicate, and how deeply we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and ask for what we truly need.

It takes bravery to navigate the world, to be honest about our desires, and to ask for what we truly desire. If you've been hurt or traumatized you need tools to calm anxiety, quiet your mind and stay present in your bodies. This can feel vulnerable—even overwhelming at times.

A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've felt overwhelmed trying to process this new reality and to get ready for my surgery on April 3rd. It is taking a lot of courage to show up and face the challenges ahead. I'm grateful that they caught it early and my prognosis is good.

Life often throws us curveballs we weren't expecting and we have to find a way to surf the waves even when we'd rather put our head in the sand. In the Hindu tradition, Hanuman (pictured above) is the embodiment of love and unwavering strength. What’s so deeply human about Hanuman is that, at one point, he forgets just how powerful he truly is—until he is reminded of the immense force, wisdom, and bravery that lives within him. Like us, he must reconnect to his own inner greatness. Once he does, he becomes unstoppable—leaping across oceans, overcoming impossible obstacles, and serving with a heart full of love. Hanuman is known as a remover of suffering, illness, and calamities, a protector who brings courage to overcome fear and resilience in the face of the unknown. His story reminds us that even when we feel small, overwhelmed, or afraid, there is a deeper power within us waiting to rise and have the courage to keep going.

We’ll cover how to check in with a partner in ways that feel natural, how to slow things down without losing connection, and how to create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable speaking up. Whether you’re LGBTQ, straight, single, or partnered, this workshop honors the truth that anyone—of any gender—can experience harm and deserves safety and care.
