🌸 Remembering Neem Karoli Baba 🌸

Today, September 11, marks the 52nd anniversary of the Mahasamadhi (passing) of Neem Karoli Baba — affectionately called Maharajji. Though I never met him in the flesh, his presence has deeply shaped my life through the ripple of teachers, music, and practices that flowed from him: Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Shyamdas, the Hanuman Chalisa, and the practice of kirtan (call and response chanting).

It’s pretty wild how someone you’ve never met can inspire you so profoundly. My own path wound through NeoTa**ra, classical Hindu Ta**ra, Bhakti Yoga — eventually leading me to India, where I first stepped into Maharajji’s ashram, in Vrindavan. I’ll never forget feeling his eyes looking right back at me from a photo on the wall like her was looking directly at me.

For me, his teachings aren’t about dogma, but about simple, universal reminders:

💜 Love everyone.
💜 Serve everyone.
💜 Feed everyone.
💜 Remember God

On this anniversary, I’m bowing in gratitude for the Grace weaving through my life, and for the community of people who support each other in living this message.

because you love to please.

This quote has been on my mind a lot this week. Some of you know I am having an oral surgery on Monday that may require them to wire my jaw shut for 6 weeks. If so, it will make chanting (my main spiritual practice) pretty challenging. I'm chanting even more this week than usual so I'm practicing while I can because I may not be able to chant in my usual way for a while. It is interesting how life takes us deeper into our spiritual practice when we allow it. How are you allowing life to take you even deeper into your own unfolding and connecting?
