Seneca’s mission is to help children & families through the most difficult times of their lives. Seneca Family of Agencies (formerly Seneca Center) was founded in 1985 as a small Bay Area residential and day treatment program with a simple but powerful mission: to help children and families through the most difficult times of their lives. Since then, Seneca has expanded to provide a broad continuum of permanency, mental health, education, and juvenile justice services, which today reach over 18,000 youth and families throughout California and Washington State each year. For over three decades, Seneca has worked to help children and families through the most challenging times of their lives. We offer a simple promise to each youth and every family we serve: no matter how profound the difficulties you face, we will be with you every step of the way. We recognize and celebrate our families and teammates’ strengths and differences as part of our collaboration to uplift our communities. Recently, we have been honored to lead a nationwide effort, Todo Por Mi Familia, a campaign to find and connect asylum-seeking families to mental health services. Learn more at www.senecafoa.org.

Crisis support is a big part of what we do at Seneca. 80% of youth who received crisis response services from Seneca in 2023-2024 were diverted from hospitalization!

Our Crisis Care Continuum ensures that youth receive the right level of care at the right time, providing support in the least restrictive environment while preventing unnecessary hospitalizations or law enforcement involvement.

Our Story

Seneca Orange County is the Southern California branch of the statewide agency, serving more than 1,000 children and families in Orange, Los Angeles, and Riverside Counties each year. PROGRAMS: PERMANENCE – Seneca OC places over 100 children in adoptive homes each year. The commitment is to children who are waiting the longest for a permanent family, part of a sibling group, developmentally challenged or medically fragile, and older youth. Services include family recruitment, assessment, pre-adoption training, family finding, placement facilitation, and post-adoption education and support. EDUCATION – Seneca OC offers academic and enrichment activities to children through programming at our Canyon Acres Ranch. MENTAL HEALTH – Seneca OC delivers therapeutic and child development services to 500 children and families each year through clinics in Tustin and Anaheim Hills. Families in crisis receive intensive, individualized wraparound services to keep children in a healthy family setting. INNOVATION – Seneca OC is a leader in adoption, child welfare, and mental health, and has trained thousands of professionals. Seneca OC creates collaborative partnerships to improve services and outcomes for children and families in Orange County. Through the unconditional care model, thousands of children are growing up in forever families, learning about their world, healing from past trauma, and looking forward to bright futures. Seneca Orange County envisions a world where systems work together effectively to help all children and families thrive, and we need your help!
