There’s something special about receiving care close to home.

At Logan County Health Services, health care isn’t just about appointments and procedures, it’s about people. It’s about caring for neighbors, friends, and generations of families who trust us with what matters most.
We are proud to provide comprehensive care right here in Oakley, from emergency services and surgery to imaging, specialty clinics, wellness programs, and more. But what truly sets us apart is the compassion, familiarity, and commitment our team brings every single day.
And now, we’re preparing for an exciting new chapter. Construction on our new facility will begin next month, a step forward that reflects our promise to continue growing, improving, and investing in the future of health care in Northwest Kansas. We look forward to continuing to provide quality care close to home, and to growing alongside the community we are honored to serve.

Because this isn’t just where we work, it’s our family, our friends, and our home. And around here, we’re one big family. ❤️

Logan County Health Services is excited to announce; the first phase of the long-anticipated building project will begin the week of March 2nd. This phase will include moving utilities and dirt work and will likely last through the summer.

Parking for patients and visitors should experience little impact. Parking in front of the hospital and the Wellness Center will continue to be reserved for patients and visitors. Parking for New Frontiers and the Health Department will also remain, but access to and from that parking lot will only be from the north (3rd Street). The west entry (Maple Ave.) will be blocked.

For updates and information, throughout the building project, please refer to www.logancountyhospital.org, posts on Facebook and Instagram, or call Logan County Hospital at 785-672-3211 with any questions.

🌟 Another Inspiring Career Day at LCHS! 🌟

LCHS was proud to once again host the Kansas Virtual Health Care Career Day, welcoming nine Oakley High School students for a morning filled with real‑world insight into healthcare careers. Students tuned in to sessions covering pediatrics, laboratory science, radiology, social services, EMT/paramedicine, and sports medicine — all designed to help them explore the many pathways available in the healthcare field.

In the afternoon, students toured our facility, met LCHS staff, and had the chance to ask questions about their fields of interest. It was a great opportunity for meaningful conversations about future careers.

A huge thank‑you to the presenters — Kansas Hospital Association, the Kansas Board of Regents, and the Kansas State Department of Education — for supporting this event and helping us inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We love being part of these students’ journeys — and we can’t wait to see where their futures lead.

We’re grateful for dedicated providers like Dr. Robert Rodriguez who bring specialized oncology care close to home.

Thank you Western Kansas Oncology Group for serving our communities!

For Dr. Robert Rodriguez, who lost his father and two grandparents to cancer, being able to help friends and family in Goodland was the big reason he became an oncologist.

“It’s something I’m very, very passionate about,” he said. “This is my home. I want to be able to help the people who helped me get to where I am. I feel a very serious and earnest calling to take care of them.”

Since May 2025, Rodriguez and Amanda Volchko, physician assistant, have had their own practice called the Western Kansas Oncology Group. They travel between hospitals in Tribune, Goodland, Oakley and Scott City seeing patients.

Rodriguez is pictured here with Goodland resident Rollie Hallagin, who credits Rodriguez with saving his life.

Moments that Matter ✨

Steve and Diann Racette closed out 2025 with a journey they’ll never forget. Steve had been preparing for a long‑awaited knee replacement and was scheduled for surgery on October 27th. Just days before, life shifted. Diann faced unexpected heart issues and, on October 24th, needed a triple bypass. ❤️‍🩹 Her surgery meant Steve’s procedure had to be postponed, and he stepped into the role of caregiver without hesitation.

Diann began cardiac rehab with steady determination. Those early days weren’t easy, but she showed up, pushed through, and slowly regained her strength. As she improved, the possibility of Steve finally getting his knee replacement came back into view — and on December 8th, he did just that. 💪

Then it was Steve’s turn to go to work and get back on his feet. What could have been a logistical nightmare became something unexpectedly beautiful. The staff at LCHS carefully coordinated their schedules so Steve and Diann could attend their appointments at the same time. They walked into the building together, encouraged each other, and walked out a little stronger each day. It became their routine — a shared mission to get back to the life they loved.

Their determination paid off. Steve completed PT on January 23rd, and Diann finished her 12‑week cardiac rehab program on January 30th. 🎉

Today, they’re not just recovered — they’re thriving. Diann recently rejoined her beloved bowling team and even bowled six full games in a single day. 🎳 Steve is moving with renewed confidence, back to doing the things he’d been missing for far too long.

Their journey is a reminder that healing isn’t just medical — it’s emotional and deeply human. And sometimes, the strongest progress happens when two people decide to face the hard days together. 💛

LCHS is honored to have been part of their story and wishes Steve and Diann continued strength, health, and joy as they move forward — side by side, just as they always have. 🌟

LCHS takes pride in noticing the little details. We strive to view our facility through the eyes of our patients, but when you walk the same halls every day, it’s natural for things to start to blur. That’s why we value a fresh perspective — and that’s exactly where the Patient, Resident, and Family Advisory Council (PRFAC) makes such a meaningful difference. This dedicated group meets monthly to learn about new services, processes, and ideas. Led by Quality Director Breanna Broeckelman, RN, the council thoughtfully considers each topic and provides insight from the patient and family point of view. Their feedback is truly invaluable, strengthening the partnership between our team and the community we’re privileged to care for.

Current PRFAC members include Ann Ostmeyer, Linda Plummer, Tenille Gillespie, Wendy Glassman, and Joyce Baalman. PRFAC member John Moorhous reflected on the group’s impact, sharing: “It is an honor and privilege to serve on this committee. It is very important to the committee to be able to discuss topics with them, and for them to keep us updated on LCHS activities. I feel that we are making a difference for our community, patients and families through our communications with LCHS.”

Research has shown that involving patients and families in care leads to better outcomes and a more patient centered culture. PRFAC councils can play a key role in improving communication, enhancing processes, supporting smoother care transitions, and even shaping facility layout. LCHS is fortunate to have an exceptional group of individuals serving on our council. Their commitment, feedback, and willingness to share their experiences help us continually improve the care we provide.

We are deeply grateful for this dedicated group of volunteers. Their voices help guide us, inspire us, and ensure that the patient and family perspective remain at the heart of everything we do. If you are interested in learning more about PRFAC or would like to be considered for membership, we invite you to reach out and connect with us at 785-672-1430.
