The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) mourns the passing of Dr. Faye Gary, EdD, MS, RN, FAAN, a visionary nurse scholar, educator, and advocate whose lifelong commitment to advancing health equity and nursing leadership left an indelible mark on the profession.
Dr. Gary was an NBNA lifetime member of the Cleveland Council of Black Nurses and a nationally respected leader in psychiatric and community health nursing. Throughout her distinguished career, she championed mental health equity, expanded educational opportunity, and mentored countless nurses who now serve as leaders across healthcare, academia, and public health.
Named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Gary’s legacy reflects a life devoted to scholarship, mentorship, and advocacy for communities often left at the margins of healthcare.
Her work improved the lives of children, families, and communities, while inspiring generations of nurses to lead with compassion, courage, and purpose.
The National Black Nurses Association extends our deepest condolences to Dr. Gary’s family, colleagues, students, and members of the Cleveland Council of Black Nurses. Her remarkable legacy will continue to guide the nursing profession and the ongoing work to achieve health equity for all communities.
