🌿 Homemade Whipped Lotion

The more I started paying attention to ingredients, the more I realized how many things in everyday lotion I can’t even pronounce… so I started making my own.

Simple ingredients. No mystery chemicals. And it feels amazing on the skin.

Recipe

• 1/2 cup shea butter
• 1/4 cup cacao butter
• 1/4 cup coconut oil
• 2 Tbsp arrowroot powder
• Essential oils (optional)

Directions

Melt shea butter, cacao butter, and coconut oil together.
Let cool about 10 minutes and whisk in arrowroot.
Add essential oils if desired.
Refrigerate 30–40 minutes, then whip until fluffy.

Arrowroot helps cut the greasy feel and gives it a soft, whipped texture.

Many conventional lotions contain ingredients like parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, PEG compounds, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.

Some of these have been studied or discussed in connection with more serious health concerns such as:

• hormone disruption
• reproductive and fertility effects
• allergic or immune reactions
• possible carcinogen exposure (like formaldehyde or 1,4-dioxane contamination)

When something goes on your skin every day, those ingredients can add up over time. That’s why I’ve started choosing simpler options when I can.

Sometimes the best swap is just going back to ingredients you recognize. 🌿

• possible carcinogen exposure (like formaldehyde or 1,4-dioxane contamination)👉 1,4-dioxane isn’t added to products on purpose. It can form during processing of ingredients like PEGs and “-eth” compounds, and it’s considered a probable carcinogen, which is why some people choose to avoid those ingredients.

Sunshine season is here, and this year I decided to keep our sun protection simple and made with ingredients I can actually recognize. ☀️🌿

Instead of reaching for conventional sunscreens loaded with things like oxybenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, and artificial fragrances, I’ve been experimenting with a more natural mineral option using ingredients already in my kitchen and pantry.

Here’s the simple sunblock recipe I’ve been using:

Ingredients• 3 tbsp coconut oil• ¼ cup shea butter• 3 tbsp cacao butter wafers• 3-4 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide powder (this is the mineral that helps reflect UV rays)• 1 tbsp red raspberry seed oil (small amount of UV protection, don’t really need this) • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder (helps reduce the greasy feel)

Directions

In a double boiler, melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and cacao butter together.

Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Stir in the red raspberry seed oil.

Mix zinc and arrowroot powder together.

Slowly mix in the powder until fully blended.

Pour into a glass jar and let it set.

That’s it. No mystery ingredients, no long chemical names—just simple things that work together to create a mineral barrier on the skin.

Is it perfect? Probably not. But for our family it’s one small way we try to lower our toxic load and choose ingredients we feel better about using every day.

Less convenience. More intention. 🌞🌿
