Started this September morning assisting Midwife Heather with 💜 Such a beautiful way to begin the day!

It’s always an honor to step in and support other midwives as they care for their families. Every time I assist, I’m reminded of what a privilege this work truly is—and I always walk away having learned something new. 💜

Now heading home for a quick nap before diving into homeschool with the kiddos and a full afternoon of clinic. 💜

Busy clinic day today—complete with plenty of sibling “helpers” 💜. At a few of today’s appointments it was a little messy, a little noisy, and absolutely full of love. Such a contrast to the sterile feel of a cold doctor’s office—My goal when I started hosting home office days was that, families all felt welcome.

One of my favorite things about midwifery care is how the whole family gets to be part of the journey. From toys on the floor to siblings listening to heart tones, every detail is part of the beautiful chaos of preparing to welcome a new little one. I love being part of the journey.

Birth, Babies and Families lost an amazing advocate today. 💜

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.
