Interstitial cystitis isn’t just a bladder condition. It’s an inflammatory state created by brain-hormone-immune dysregulation. The bladder (and other openings from the body into the world) are areas with high mast cell density. When you have these conditions, mast cells are often hypersensitized releasing histamine at the drop of a feather. Even when you’re on a low histamine diet, this doesn’t compare to the amount of histamine released by mast cells. And, stress (even teeny tiny amounts of it, stressors that might not even register in the conscious brain) is enough to sound the alarm to those mast cells and histamine floods the bladder (and other pelvic floor organs).
