The 12 Days of Holiday Mental Health!

On the Second day of awareness Phoenix brought to me, dealing with no Contact during the holidays.

Going no-contact means you cut off all forms of communication with one or more members of your family. It’s usually a way to protect yourself or a loved one, but this can also make the holidays feel sad, and sometimes overwhelming, but its important to remember that you sent those boundaries for a reason.

some ways to help deal with these feelings of guilt, sadness or loneliness are
1-Acknowledge your journey and your feelings
2-Redefine what the holidays mean to you
3-Build connection with chosen family and community
4-Lean into your community
5-Manage the guilt with reminders of the loss with self-compassion
6-Volunteer, give back, or celebrate time and a half day by working
7-Seek out support when needed
8-Recognize that no contact isn't always absolute

The 12 Days of Holiday Mental Health!

On the first day of Awareness Phoenix brought to me- how to cope with S.A.D

S.A.D. also known as Seasonal Affective disorder effects 10-11 Million Americans every year, mainly around the holidays, 4 out of every 10 americans. and the slightly milder "winter blues" effect an additional 25 million. (UTHealth Houston)

S.A.D. is more than just not liking the cold winther, or shorter days, it can cause serious mood and behavioral changes and symptoms such as a persistent feeling of sadness, anxiousness or "emptiness" most if not every day for 2 weeks or more, feelings of hopelessness, Oversleeping (hypersomnia), overeating mainly craving carbohydrates leading to weight gain, and social withdrawal (social hibernation)
Winter-pattern SAD should not be confused with “holiday blues”—feelings of sadness or anxiety brought on by stresses at certain times of the year. The depression associated with SAD is related to changes in daylight hours, not the calendar, so stresses associated with the holidays or predictable seasonal changes in work or school schedules, family visits, and so forth are not the same as SAD.

the best ways to help with S.A.D. is Light therapy, Psychotherapy, Antidepressant medications, and Vitamin D supplements.

ig you are feeling like you may ne suffering from S.A.D. please contact your Doctor or Mental health provider as soon as possible. and if its an emergency, you feel like you may harm yourself or others please call 988 for the Crisis Hotline or 911 for emergency services. remember, they are here to HELP not to Judge, no one will think yo are "silly" or "being dramatic" if you ask for help.

December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities Day!

Did you know according to UN.org that~

1 in 6, or an estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disabilities, representing %16 of the entire world's population.

some people with disabilities die up to 20 years sooner than those without.

the risk of developing conditions such as depression, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity or poor oral health is twice as likely for someone with disabilities.

And Disability inclusion in all aspects of social, economic, cultural and political life is imperative, as the community as a whole is at higher risk for living in poverty, or facing employment Discrimination, like receiving lower wages and being overrepresented therefore not getting their individual needs met.

Please visit https://www.un.org/en/observances/day-of-persons-with-disabilities
for more information, ways to help the community, and even a link to an online Seminar being held today in NYC.

November is National Homeless Awareness Month, and in these Unprecedented times, it is more important than ever to be knowledgeable on the Resources available and Mental Health access, as well as how you can help those in need who may not have the means to help themselves.

Did you know, according to the most comprehensive national data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) annual PIT count, as of January 2024 there were a reported 771,480 homeless Americans? And in 2025 that number increased by an estimated %4.1 with approximately 260,000 of those people (roughly %36 of total population) being unable to receive any shelter or resources.

there are resources out there, and while yes they are limited, most are unaware of how to access them. So below we have linked a few sites aimed to help this ever growing and struggling community, who are in great need of assistance and Compassion.

SAMHSA is amazing, with a plethora of resource links for everything from housing assistance, to mental health care programs

https://www.samhsa.gov/communities/homelessness-programs-resources

The National Alliance to end Homelessness also has a page where you can see an in depth break down of the homeless crisis, and how it's impacting americans as well as bringing light to those who are more at risk. At the top of their website there is a yellow DONATE button to help if you have the means to do so.

💙💜September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, providing us with the opportunity to learn about and recognize risk factors and warning signs of su***de, support and refer those that struggle and save lives.

Risk factors are characteristics or conditions that can increase the chance a person will die by su***de. Examples include brain development related to age, presence and treatment of mental health conditions, head injuries, body chemistry (related to sleep, diet, exercise, stress), previous su***de attempts, childhood abuse, sexual trauma, family history of su***de, combat stress, “cutting,” access to lethal means, and prolonged stress due to life events.

Warning signs are observable signs that signal su***de risk in the near future. Examples include talking about ending their lives, feeling like a burden to others or having no purpose in life, wanting relief from unbearable pain, feeling trapped in situations, sleeping too much or too little, isolating from people, withdrawing from activities they normally enjoy, giving away prized possessions, changes in mood.

If you notice that someone is displaying signs of mental distress or warning signs of su***de, start a conversation. Express caring and concern. Ask questions and listen nonjudgmentally. Help find appropriate resources and support as needed.
