One year ago today, we checked into OU Health in preparation for a life saving kidney transplant. We didn’t sleep much that night. The emotions we experienced were many. We felt relief transplant day was almost here because we had precious living donor ready and willing to give Rick a kidney. We felt guilt that someone was giving us so much. We felt grateful someone was willing to do something so huge for our family. We felt fear of the unknown. We felt hopeful as we looked forward to freedom and fullness of life a successful transplant would provide.

Today we have enjoyed a stressfree day with our family and friends. We enjoyed a day with our grandsons. The day started with breakfast with the boys and their first lawn mowing lesson. The day ended with a cookout with our neighbors. Our hearts are full of gratefulness to our precious donor who helped make this day possible. ❤️

Because someone special shared their spare kidney Harrison was able to take his Grunps to breakfast for his birthday and Zachary was able to bring his Grumps a birthday cake. Kidney donation save lives and allows more birthday celebration with our loved ones.

Today we had the opportunity to celebrate 30 years of marriage and we are looking forward to many more!!♥️This was made possible because a generous living kidney donor said yes to the call. We are forever thankful for the selfless gift of life given to our family.

We must confess there was some anxiety leading up to 1-5-2024, the 6 month anniversary of the transplant. We allowed the distractions and business of this world to pulled our focus from the Lord who can always be trusted and onto ourselves and our weak limited abilities. We are thankful for the steadfast love of the LORD and thankful for the continual encouragement and support from those who are on this journey with us. ❤️Labs are not perfect but are stable and Rick is doing great! We will continue to trust the Lord for daily provision knowing HE IS ENOUGH!!!

We have so much to be thankful for this year!!! The Lord has provided for our family, not because we deserved it it, but because of His incredible grace and mercy. The Lord prompted our dear Lauren to give a life saving kidney to our family. ❤️Lauren followed this nudging and as a result we enjoyed another Thanksgiving meal with Rick. Rick was able to enjoy the feast with far less eating restrictions and was able to participate in the meal preparation (one of his all time favorite things to do) without the extreme exhaustion he had lived with the past two years. It was a great day and we will be forever grateful!

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1

❤️OH LOOK WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE!! ❤️

And just like that, Rick gets to return to the work he loves at Smith & Kernke Funeral Homes & Crematory!

1)Pray he is able to avoid germs.
2)Pray for wisdom on when to avoid people and sistuations, when to wear a mask, and when it is appropriate to lift and carry things and when it could cause damage.
3)Pray for Rick’s coworkers as they navigate these restrictions and celebrate Rick’s return.
