Allied Health Audiology students and faculty recently volunteered at the Hough Ear Institute Science Day Camp in the OKC Innovation District!

Drs. Dyer and Kimball, along with the audiology students, taught middle schoolers from underserved communities how to perform hearing screenings and otoscopic exams. They also assisted with science projects such as extracting DNA from a strawberry, CO2 production, making slime and flubber, and seeing what happens when Mentos and Diet Coke combine 💥

We're thrilled to announce that our degree programs in speech-language pathology (MA SLP) and audiology (AuD) have been awarded reaccreditation through February 28, 2033 ⭐

Knowing if your AuD or SLP programs are accredited is crucial because it impacts your ability to get licensed, certified, employed, and receive financial aid.

The University of Oklahoma College of Allied Health is the only college in the state of Oklahoma with a doctorate in audiology program, and we are one of only four accredited MA-SLP programs.

It's Vet Appreciation Day!

We are so thankful for our amazing veterinary care team and their dedication to keeping the Zoo’s animal family healthy! When providing all aspects of care from preventative to emergencies, there are occasions that require the assistance of medical experts and specialized equipment from outside the Zoo. We are fortunate to have a network of doctors and medical professionals willing to collaborate on cases and lend their expertise to our vet team. Some of these collaborative efforts even offer students at The University of Oklahoma in the College of Allied Health a pretty unique learning experience!

Recently, our female jaguar Zia needed some specialized care that required a CT scan. Thanks to our partnership with the OU College of Allied Health, Zia was able to go in for a CT scan which became a teaching opportunity for their students to learn more about exotic animal radiography screenings and readings! “Even though we are teaching our students to image humans, presenting them with opportunities like this allows them to see the wide impact that medical imaging can have on community. We are more than just ‘button pushers,’ and the skillset they are learning may take them places they never previously imagined,” says Bradford Gildon, Program Director, Radiography.

Thanks to a generous grant provided to OU College of Allied Health by the University Hospitals Authority and Trust, students in the radiography, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy programs are able to gain hands-on experience using an in-house CT scanner. The grant supports not only education but campus research, allowing live animals to be scanned for teaching and investigative purposes. The OKC Zoo is grateful to the students and faculty at the OU College of Allied Health for their partnership and assisting our veterinary care team to ensure our incredible animals have the best quality of care possible.

𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟐 🇮🇹 Our students learned about the history of pasta, had class with Dr. Hays, toured a cheese factory, and saw plenty of sights in between.

The student group in the Allied Health’s Mediterranean Diet and Culture study abroad program is always highly multidisciplinary. This year, we had students representing majors from all over campus: Nutritional Sciences to Criminology, Energy Management, Biology, Pre-Communication Sciences, Psychology, Pre-Med, OT, PT, Pre-Nursing, Social Work, and even Accounting and Mechanical Engineering.

It's been fantastic having so many perspectives in the group and watching them learn about Mediterranean nutrition and Tuscan culture firsthand. , we'll see you next year!

About the College of Allied Health

In 1967, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education authorized the College of Allied Health. The College was activated in February 1970 to consolidate and coordinate existing programs on the OU Health Sciences Center campus and to further develop programs to meet allied health resource needs in Oklahoma. It serves as the academic unit for eleven diverse health science professions, post professional, and graduate degree programs. Its professional-entry educational programs prepare students to join a multidisciplinary health care delivery system focused on the well being of citizens of Oklahoma. Four of the eleven professional entry programs are the only programs in Oklahoma: Audiology, Nuclear Medicine, Occupational Therapy, and Radiation Therapy. College pass rate on professional entry Boards/Licensure examinations in the eleven professional-entry programs is 94.3%. Through its graduate programs, the College prepares future leadership, faculty, advanced practice clinicians, and researchers for the professions and Oklahoma.

The College is authorized to offer twenty-one programs: eight baccalaureate, twelve at the master or doctoral level, and one certificate program. Diagnosis of disease and disorders, wellness and prevention, therapeutic and rehabilitative services, health care administration, and allied health professions education encompass the spectrum of professional programs in the College of Allied Health. Faculty offer continuing education programs for practitioners in Oklahoma and region, and faculty development seminars for clinicians involved with professional-entry programs in the College. The College extended its accredited professional-entry programs in Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy to the OU branch campus in Tulsa in 1998. In 2002, the College offered OU's first web-based graduate degree program in Rehabilitation Sciences and in 2003 its first post-professional web-based undergraduate degree program in Radiation Sciences. The professional-entry accredited program in Sonography was extended to the OU-Tulsa campus in Fall 2006 and from Fall 2007-Spring 2017, the professional-entry accredited program in Radiography was extended to the OU-Tulsa campus.
