The concept of body cue awareness, or interoceptive awareness, is the ability to perceive the physical sensations of hunger and satiety.

Attunement disruptors—factors that hinder this awareness and negatively affect eating behaviors.

These disruptors include skipping meals, multitasking while eating, sleep deprivation, drinking alcohol, feeling guilty about relaxing, critical self-talk, people-pleasing, withdrawing from social interactions when stressed, not setting healthy boundaries, and taking on too many responsibilities.

By identifying and removing these obstacles, you can improve your interoceptive awareness and develop a healthier relationship with food.

Eating past fullness is a common experience that many people struggle with.

It can be puzzling and frustrating, especially when we’re aware of our fullness but continue to eat anyway. Understanding the reasons behind this behavior can help us address it more effectively.

A Registered Dietitian can help you exploring the underlying reasons for overeating and implement strategies so that you can develop a healthier relationship with food and learn to honor your body’s natural signals.

Together we will create a balanced eating plan that includes all foods in moderation, reducing the cycle of restriction and bingeing. Identify balanced meals tailored to your needs, ensuring you feel full and satisfied. Practice mindful eating to encourage focus on meals and recognition of fullness cues. Identify habit loops where overeating becomes a habitual response to specific cues reinforced by rewards, and modify behaviors to help develop healthier routines and alternative rewards.

Through personalized guidance, practical strategies, and ongoing support, a Registered Dietitian can help you develop sustainable eating habits that prevent overeating and promote overall well-being.

If you have ADHD, mainstream weight loss and wellness programs don’t always work because our brains are wired differently.

A Registered Dietitian can be instrumental in creating a tailored solution to help you address the root cause driving your eating behaviors and ultimately improve your relationship with food.

Your dietitian can help you understand how your mood, emotions, and environment influence your food choices. Through behavioral coaching, we can finally address emotional eating patterns, impulse control, and coping strategies for stress and boredom without turning to food.

Your dietitian can provide strategies to improve interoceptive awareness so you can recognize and respond to hunger and fullness cues more effectively.

Together we will develop practical strategies to help with meal planning, preparation, and consistency in eating habits. This may include personalized meal planning, implementing time management techniques, or organizing food environments for easier access to healthy options.

By combining nutritional expertise with behavioral strategies and personalized guidance, a Registered Dietitian can empower you to navigate your unique challenges and cultivate a healthier lifestyle to support your well-being.

Here’s what happens when you end the diet cycle and start listening to your body and your cravings.

You can enjoy your favorite foods, savoring each bite without overindulgence, and stopping when you feel just right.

Say goodbye to strict diet plans and learn to listen to your body's natural hunger and fullness signals for a more intuitive eating experience.

Enjoy a diverse range of foods without guilt or shame, celebrating food as a source of pleasure and nourishment.

Accept occasional overeating as a normal part of life without the need for compensatory actions.

Find joy in social eating experiences, break free from restrictive food rules, and develop a more positive body image, leading to a healthier, happier lifestyle beyond the constraints of dieting.

Recently, I've been seeing a lot of posts on social media about the wellness 'Ins and Outs' for the new year, and it inspired me to share my own perspective. As a registered dietitian, my goal isn't to shame anyone but rather to shed light on practices that might not be serving your health and well-being as well as you might think.

We're all on our unique health journeys, and what works for one person might not work for another. That's why it's crucial to be mindful of how certain trends affect us personally.

🚫 Out in 2023:
Morning Fasting: Once popular for its potential weight loss and metabolism benefits, morning fasting is now seen as potentially disruptive to blood sugar levels and energy, especially for those with certain health conditions or hectic lifestyles.
• HIIT Workouts: High-Intensity Interval Training can be too harsh for some, leading to potential injuries and burnout.
• Tracking Calories: Obsessively counting macros can create an unhealthy relationship with food, stressing more on numbers than nutrition.
• Doom Scrolling Social Media: Constantly consuming negative news can take a toll on mental health, leading to stress and anxiety.
• Plastic Food Containers: Harmful chemicals in plastics can leach into our food, posing health risks.
• Powders and Supplements: Over-reliance can overshadow the importance of getting nutrients from whole foods.
✅ In for 2024:
• High Protein Breakfast: Starting the day with protein stabilizes blood sugar and energy levels, and supports muscle health.
• Low Impact Strength Training: Gentle on joints and sustainable, it improves strength and fitness without the risk of injury.
• Listening to Hunger and Fullness Signals: This encourages a more intuitive approach to eating, respecting our body's needs.
• Journaling: A wonderful tool for mental health, helping us process thoughts and reduce stress.
• Glass Food Containers: Safer for our health and the environment, they don't leach harmful chemicals.
• Whole Foods: Emphasizing whole foods ensures a rich intake of natural vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Here's to a more mindful, healthy, and holistic 2024!
