Words are a 5th chakra phenomenon. Thet are vital for the dialogue of scientific information. They can help humans harness brain power, They are not the only important means of communicating. To get at the larger spiritual, sometimes one has to surrender spoken language,
We think we communicate and understand most deeply using language. But how can we say what words cannot express? Silence.
Drawing on Wittgenstein and Heidegger, philosopher Steven Bindeman argues that language often keeps us separated from the world and is fundamentally incapable of describing it.
"As Kierkegaard once wrote, 'Bring silence to people who listen and watch them take themselves to heart'," writes Bindeman.
Only silence can bridge the gap between the self and world.
Bindeman was a Professor of Philosophy and Department Chairperson at Strayer University. He is a leading theorist on silence and has published articles on Heidegger, Wittgenstein and the creative process.
