Special Sitters

Special Sitters Professional In Home Care for children and young adults with a disability. As parents, our God given responsibility is to train our children for life.

As parents of four children, two with special needs, we understand your challenges in raising special needs children. As a parent, you experience highs and lows as your children grow through the seasons of life. We learned early, that these high and lows are amplified when you are caring for a special needs child. You want to attend your children’s sporting events, teacher conferences, and musical performances. You want to continue to date your spouse because a strong marriage creates a strong family. Like us, you probably have asked yourselves, “How do we create and maintain this balance when most of our time and energy is devoted to caring for our special needs child?”

Our desire is to help you answer that question so your family can experience the fullness of blessings available to your family because of your special needs child. A Special Sitter was inspired by our ongoing journey of parenting our family and we believe that our experiences can help you experience the fullness of blessings we have received as we have raised our family. 🕒 The Power of a Routine 💜

Consistency builds comfort—and for many children with disabilities, predictable routines can make the world feel safe, calm, and manageable.

✨ Routines help children know what to expect next, reducing anxiety and meltdowns.
✨ They create opportunities for independence and confidence.
✨ They make transitions smoother for the whole family.

Whether it’s a bedtime checklist, morning routine, or visual schedule, structure doesn’t just keep the day on track—it helps kids thrive. 🌈

🎃 Sensory-Friendly Halloween Tips 👻

Halloween can be exciting—but for some children, the noise, costumes, and surprises can feel overwhelming. Here are a few simple ways to make the night more fun (and less stressful) for everyone:

1️⃣ Choose Comfortable Costumes
Skip itchy fabrics or masks if your child doesn’t like them. Soft pajamas or themed T-shirts can still be festive! 👕✨

2️⃣ Do a Practice Run
Walk through the neighborhood or practice saying “trick or treat” ahead of time so it feels familiar. 🏠

3️⃣ Bring Comfort Items
A favorite toy, fidget, or headphones can help calm overstimulation. 🎧💜

4️⃣ Plan for Breaks
Find a quiet space to regroup if things feel too busy or loud. 🌙

5️⃣ Celebrate Your Way
Candy swaps, movie nights, or trunk-or-treat events are great alternatives to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating! 🍬

Halloween is for every child—and small adjustments can make it magical for all. ✨

🌱 The Importance of Early Intervention 🌱

Every child develops at their own pace—but when parents notice delays in communication, motor skills, or social interaction, early support can make all the difference. ✨

Early intervention helps children build foundational skills during the most crucial stages of growth. Through therapies, structured play, and family-centered support, we can nurture each child’s potential—right from the start.

💜 When we invest early, we empower children to thrive later.

If you have questions or need guidance connecting with early intervention resources in your area, we’re always here to help.

💜 Let’s Talk About Caregiver Burnout 💜

Caring for a child with special needs takes incredible love, strength, and patience — but even the most devoted caregivers can’t pour from an empty cup.

✨ Caregiver burnout is real. It can look like exhaustion, irritability, guilt, or feeling disconnected — and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. You’re human.

Remember:
🌿 It’s okay to ask for help.
🌿 It’s okay to take a break.
🌿 It’s okay to care for you, too.

Taking time to rest doesn’t mean you’re stepping away from love — it means you’re making space to keep giving it. 💫

If you need support, community, or just a listening ear, you’re not alone. 💜

🌿 Caregiver Reminder: You deserve rest, too. 🌿

Caring for a child with special needs takes endless love, energy, and strength. But even the most devoted caregivers need moments to recharge.

✨ Take that deep breath.
✨ Enjoy a quiet cup of coffee.
✨ Step outside for a few minutes of sunshine.

Rest isn’t selfish—it’s essential. The care you give to yourself is the care that keeps you going for those who need you most. 💜
