Grief Garden is excited to announce that Katie has obtained certification as an International Partner of Perinatal Excellence (IPPE-C). This certification demonstrates Katie's commitment to providing critical support to families who have experienced perinatal or infant death.
Katie frequently supports siblings who have experienced the death of a sibling during pregnancy or infancy, meaning that she is intently aware of how important supporting young grievers is, through any type of loss.

Back to School season means something different for kids grieving the death of a loved one.

-Maybe it means anxiety over activities that include naming family member; do you still list them if they died?
-Maybe it means feeling like the odd man out or that 'everybody' knows something happened.
-Maybe it means that it's hard to be excited when things are just so different

As the area heads back to school in the coming days/weeks, please be thinking of the kids in our community for whom Back to School feels different this year.

Grief Garden is holding space for one of our families after being present at a death last night. Goodbyes are never easy, but it doesn't mean they can't be good.

Thank you for inviting us into your family during such a precious time, it was an honor.

Today at camp we talked about our people who died and how their deaths broke our hearts open. We also shared about how, with time and care from others, our hearts are pieced back together-- which while whole again, still has evidence of the cracks that existed before.

How appropriate that when we broke our flowerpot today, a perfect heart shape cracked out and through it you could see our "shattered heart" (spelling proficiency not required for camp!)

Thank you to the volunteers who made camp a success today. And, thank you to the caregivers who trusted us with your kids to be grief-y and remember your loved ones.

Our director will be educating birth/postpartum professionals about supporting families, including siblings, who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss this coming October in the Greater Des Moines area.

June was a great month at Grief Garden! We are so thankful to work with organizations in the community who recognize the value of these supportive services for kids.

Grief Garden is looking forward to July, with our annual Kids Grief Camp happening on the 19th!

Endless Journey Hospice is a locally owned hospice with branches in Omaha and Lincoln. Grief Garden is glad to have a partnership with this organization to serve both adult centered patients and their pediatric patient population!
