Today my favorite client and I were…WINGING IT, but we were so productive!

His goal is to use functional phrases on his AAC to direct others….that means he gets to boss me around…which he absolutely LOVES to do.

What we accomplished:

AAC phrases
“Get Cookie Monster Elmo”
“Get Cookie Monster Elmo hamburger”
“Get Cookie Monster Elmo pizza”
“Cookie monster happy”
“Elmo sad”
“Is sad”
“Cookie Monster Elmo movies car”

Apraxia Trials:
5 trials of “hamburger”
10 trials of “eat pizza”
10 trials “Elmo sad”
5 trials ”Monster Happy”
5 trials “See movie”

So Cookie Monster & Elmo ended up at the drive in after their meals.

Play-based, child-led sessions like this are what I live for!

Last week I applied for the HIGH FIVE Grant for Moms from The Mama Ladder. Here is my why for my business:

I have been working as a solo practitioner for my speech therapy private practice for over the past two years, but I am now motivated to grow my business to provide opportunities for other providers to service children within the public school system. I know first hand of the experience of speech therapists who work in the school district. I know that they are stressed, overworked, burnt out, and in need of opportunities to help young children with communication challenges thrive at school, but under conditions that support their peace and mental health.

I want to grow my business into a therapist-run school staffing company that supports the needs of children with disabilities, but also supports the providers who are dedicating their lives to this work by offering control over their caseload, options for full or part-time work, professional development, mentorship, training, and work-from home opportunities.

I understand what is needed by the professionals I seek to hire because I was once in their shoes. I understand the frustrations they experience when all they want to do is help their students. I would love for my company to be the change speech therapists are looking for.
