..and their productivity and quality of life at work, school and home is greatly reduced, equating to on average about 9 years of their productive lives, due to a chronic hormonal health disorder.

A new article for the Globe and Mail reported that generic versions of Ozempic could become available in Canada as early as 2026.

To shed light on this, we asked our Medical Advisor, Dr. Megha Poddar, MD—an Endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Specialist—what women should know:

"The availability of generic versions of Ozempic in Canada is overall a positive development. Cost remains the biggest barrier to access for these medications, so lower prices will likely allow more patients to benefit. Increased competition is also a good thing—moving away from a single medication dominating the market can provide more options for individuals seeking treatment.

That said, I remain cautiously optimistic. In my experience, when there’s money to be made, the end user—the patient—is not always the primary focus. More choices don’t automatically mean better outcomes. For these medications to truly make a meaningful impact, they need to be provided alongside long-term, structured support to help people achieve and maintain their health goals. This can of worms is just starting to open.

We have fortunately been mostly sheltered from compounded versions of GLP1 medications, but we can learn from the challenges south of the border - telehealth services, online pharmacies, all improving access but without any semblance of support.

Still, Canada is leading the way in obesity management, and it’s encouraging to see that we are the first to expand access in this way. As highlighted in our Canadian Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines, patients are their own best advocates, and we will continue to support them in getting the most out of these advancements."

A note from our founder, Rina ~ On a recent trip to Mexico—for a long awaited vacation—I was reading Grown Woman Talk, a no-nonsense guide to getting and staying healthy.

Written by well-known American Ob-Gyn physician , it’s packed with the kind of unfiltered wisdom we all need to navigate the unpredictable health terrain of our (mid)life - because things change, and the strategies we've relied on in our younger years may not be the right approach to get a healthyher life!

As I dedicate my time to helping all women uncover the best evidence-based advice to manage our hormonal health, this book offers us some critical reminders:

> You are your PRIMARY caregiver
> No one is in a better position to do more about your health than you are
> Get what you need for your health when you need it most - Don't wait!

Stay strong and stay well đź’ś Rina
