“Jacob’s needs are very different from the other autistic kids I see. He wouldn’t do well with the traditional approach to therapy.”

And just like that… everything we’ve been working toward felt seen.

I have fought hard to get Jacob the therapies he needs—trying anything and everything suggested, second guessing myself more times than I can count. Because when you’re parenting an autistic child, you’re constantly navigating systems that weren’t built for your child.

But our current BCBA? She gets it.
She gets him. She sees me.

And because of that, we’re finally making real, meaningful progress—by doing things a little differently than traditional ABA.

This is your reminder: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to autism. The right support isn’t about fitting our kids into a system… it’s about finding people willing to meet them where they are.

And when you find those people—hold onto them. 🤍

This month is all about celebrating the incredible sparks in every child we work with. Each kiddo brings a unique personality that makes our clinic—and the world—a brighter place.

Learning in progress! 🧩✨ At SparkJoy ABA, we believe that the best breakthroughs happen when kids are having the most fun.

Whether we’re building towers on our rainbow rug or getting messy with car-track art, every moment is an opportunity to build communication, social skills, and independence. Our clinicians are right there on the floor, meeting every child where they are!

Building trust takes time, patience, and meeting each child where they are.

This Saturday morning, our founder met with a new learner for their second session together. While Saturday sessions aren’t our usual, this was an important visit. The first meeting didn’t quite click, which can happen when a child is getting to know someone new. Instead of rushing into demands, today’s focus was simply on building trust.

The entire session centered around the child’s passion for chameleons, allowing connection and comfort to grow naturally through play and shared interests. With some help from siblings in the natural environment, the session stayed engaging and fun while the learner became more comfortable.

By the end of the session, the group worked together to create this awesome chameleon masterpiece.

At SparkJoy, we know we cannot move forward until we have first established joy to build from.

One fish, two fish, RBT... fish? 🐟🐠

When we’re supporting our kiddos in a daycare setting, we don’t just show up—we jump right in! Our RBT and Student Analyst, Clara, made sure she fit right in with the daycare staff for Storybook Day.

She even hand-drew these fish to match her Dr. Seuss inspiration! 🎨 We love being part of a community that stays just as fun and silly as the kids we serve.

It’s all part of providing the best support in the natural environment—and clearly, Clara understood the assignment! 📚✨

Play is a child’s natural language, and every "small" moment on the floor is actually a massive milestone in disguise. From solo exploration to sharing a snack with a friend, we are so proud of the progress happening right here in Ontario!
