I have noticed a trend. At initial consults, a familiar situation occurs:
✴️The partner expresses worry or concern that the doula will "replace them"

I am SO darn quick to correct this one, because I cannot replace a loved support person! The eye contact, presence and touch that a partner provides is something I can never, ever replace. Instead, birth support allows the partner to ignore all the other stuff (remembering snacks, water, setting the vibe) and instead, just be present in the moment.

When everyone brings their skills to the party, that's when we have the best birth experiences.

If you had a doula, what was your partner's initial response? Let me know below.

As I start to get back into the swing of things, I thought I would quickly pop up the services I am currently offering.

I will have limited birth support spaces available as I ease back into it, so if you are pregnant and wanting me as your doula, know it is never too early to reach out.

If you have used any of my services below, let me know below!

When friend and midwife reached out about having me as part of her support team, I was so honoured. This birth will go down as one of the most special to my heart. When birth meets friendship, something really magical happens ❤️❤️

Jillian's Birth Story:
I knew it surprised many people when I decided to hire a doula for my first birth, but I knew at the start it was the right choice for me and my family. Hilariously, I slid into Lianne’s DMs asking her “about a client who wanted to know how early it was to book” and when she told me, I got to admit it was me wanting to secure a spot with her at 8 weeks pregnant.

Even if Lianne didn’t attend my birth, her prenatal resources were worth their weight in gold. She provided me with quality resources, lent me a TENS machine for labour and in those final days, helped keep my spirits up when I truly thought my baby would never arrive.

She tailored our private prenatal class to be “midwife partner specific” which is incredibly helpful to a partner who has spent their life hearing about birth but getting to witness it for the first time. We also attended Lianne’s in person postpartum class and we both learnt so much; when I recommend her classes to my clients I can say with all confidence as a midwife and a client who took her classes they are essential to a positive postpartum experience.

My birth was magical and everything I could have possibly dreamed of and I’m so grateful Lianne could be by my side. She worked seamlessly with my midwives to make sure I was comfortable and safe, and lovingly provided suggestions, even when "labouring Jillian" did not want to hear it. And as a bonus to all her support, captured maybe the most magical photo of all time, where I got to meet my long awaited baby and reveal in the beautiful relief of pushing out an asynclitic baby.

After that phenomenal experience, I got to sit back and bond with my baby while Lianne and my midwives managed to make my place look cleaner than before and even washed my birth soaked yoga mat; that is true dedication to a client. I am so grateful to Lianne for her support and care, and I can’t wait for the next baby to do it all again!

If there is one thing you should know about me, I am always up for growing my brain and skill set. If it can improve my confidence and knowledge , or your experience, I am all for it!

What training do you think I have signed up for? What would you love to see on your doulas resume? A hint: It is something that will serve me as both a doula and a labour and delivery nurse. Throw your guesses in the comments!

You are rocking that thick, luxurious pregnancy hair, then your little one arrives. Next thing you know, you are in the shower and you can't wash your hair without your hands being covered in shedding hair. What the heck!

In pregnancy, hormones cause our bodies to hold onto hair for longer. Once you have your baby, those hormones shift and your body says bye-bye to all that gorgeous extra growth 😭

What can you do to minimize the shed?
🔵 Continue taking your prenatal vitamins
🔵 Be gentle with your hair, decrease how often you wash your hair (haha... like that's hard) and detangle with a wide tooth comb
🔵 Use scrunchies or barrettes rather than elastics, and avoid tight ponytails
🔵 Skip the heat (straightener, blow dryer, etc)

Know that this will end! Most people report the first six months is the heaviest for postpartum hair loss, and by one year it has returned to normal hair shedding. If you have other odd symptoms, or feel the hair loss is excessive, talk to your doctor to make sure we aren't missing something.

Did you have postpartum hair loss? Let me know below low long it lasted, and if you knew to expect it!

When you open up your social media, and all you see are posts like:
"This is the best way to..."
"Birth like me"
Blah blah blah

Remember, you are unique, and so is your experience. We aren't meant to all have the same journey, as we are all individuals that live in separate bodies, with our own special baby.

It can be hard not to compare and measure ourselves, so let this be your gentle reminder that it's okay to be you, with your experience, and your choices ❤️

Happy International Day of the Midwife!

I am the hugest supporter of midwifery care, and it's for a good reason.

Find yourself a provider who will empower you fully, guide you through the hard parts, and smile at you through the joys.

Midwifery care allowed me to have four amazing birth experiences, two of which provided me the option to include my older children.

I won't ever be able to put into words what my midwives mean to me, so here are some pictures, while I shed happy tears and snuggle my newest little love ❤️
