As firefighters, we routinely encounter individuals experiencing homelessness during emergency responsesβ€”whether it’s during structure fires, medical calls, or extreme weather events.

Understanding who’s unhoused in our city helps agencies like Ontario’s Housing Services Department secure resources and plan for a safer, more resilient community. This year’s Point-in-Time Count will be held at Anthony MuΓ±oz Community Center (1240 W. 4th St., Ontario, CA 91762) on Jan. 22nd.

This annual effort captures a snapshot of homelessness in our city and across San Bernardino County and relies on local volunteers to conduct a structured survey. Must be 18+ to volunteer. Sign up at: ontarioca.gov/1morning

Thank you to our members, partners and the community for supporting us in our Stuff the Bus initiative that benefitted the 2025 Spark of Love Toy Drive this month. We are grateful that with your supportβ€”we were able to alleviate some of the hardships the holiday season brings to our region’s underserved population.

We look forward to more positive impact in 2026! 🀝 ❀️

πŸŽ„β€οΈ We wish you joy, warmth, and good health this holiday season. We’re also incredibly grateful for our members working through the storm to keep our community safe.

As heavy rain continues across the Inland Empire today and into Christmas, here are a few storm safety reminders to help keep you and your family protected:

β–ͺ️ Drive cautiously: Slow down, avoid flooded roads
β–ͺ️ Plan ahead: Check road conditions before you go
β–ͺ️ Avoid impaired driving: Designate a sober driver
β–ͺ️ Stay informed: Monitor alerts from National Weather Service

Let’s keep this holiday both festive and safe. Merry Christmas! 🎁

🌧️ A powerful atmospheric river is forecast to hit San Bernardino County tonight, Dec. 23, with the heaviest rain expected Wednesday, Dec. 24 and continued showers through the weekend.

With up to 4” of rain expected in the valleys and even more in the foothills, now is the time to prepareβ€”not after the rain starts.

πŸ”₯πŸ πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ This footage from a house fire in October shows our Ontario firefighters performing a critical tactic β€” vertical ventilation. By cutting into the roof, we’re able to release superheated gases, thick smoke, and toxic fumes that collect near the ceiling β€” improving visibility, reducing the risk of flashover, and giving trapped occupants a better chance of survival. It also slows fire spread in attics and protects structural integrity.

This strategy isn’t random β€” it’s calculated, coordinated, and timed with interior crews to enhance overall firefighting operations while prioritizing life safety.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ ❀️ πŸ•ŠοΈ Today marks one year since the passing of our brother, Firefighter Javan Settlesβ€”an extraordinary public servant whose life and legacy continue to guide us. Javan’s journey into the fire service began after witnessing the events of 9/11 in New York, a moment that redirected his life toward service, courage, and sacrifice.

From the FDNY Big House at Ladder 134, to a decade with Long Beach Fire, to joining Ontario Fire in 2023, he carried an unmatched pride for the craft and a work ethic that elevated everyone around him. Javan was a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a mentor whose positivity and purpose left a mark on every room he entered.

His love for his two daughters, his family, and his firehouse family was evident in everything he did. As we honor him today, we recommit ourselves to carrying forward his legacy through our actions, our service, and our brotherhood.

We’ve seen firsthand how one reckless decision can change β€” or end β€” a life. Don’t drink and drive. It’s not worth jeopardizing your life, your family’s future, your career, or someone else’s safety.

Call a friend. Use a rideshare. Stay where you are. Just don’t get behind the wheel impaired. We want to see you make it home safe β€” every time.
