Dustin's Hope

Dustin's story as told by his mom, CarolLee. I don't even know where to begin to tell Dustin's journey and experiences. He has been struggling with his health for about 2 years now. Dustin has really struggled with his health since birth; with the cord wrapped around his neck and struggling for air, a yeast rash all over his little body and multiple ear infections causing him to be smaller than normal. He got reoccurring sore throats, sinus infections and cold sores throughout his whole life. Through all of his trials he always has a good attitude and is always willing to help anyone with anything at anytime, and had a way about him that made everyone know this. I have had many people tell me that he is the most Christlike person they know. I am so proud and grateful to be his mother! The Chronic illness he has been dealing with the past 2 years started with just a cold and sinus infections that didn't seem to go away not matter what he did both natural and medical. The cold eventually moved down to his lungs making it harder and harder to breathe, lowering his oxygen levels into the lower 80's and down into the 70's at night. Normal oxygen levels are 98 anything below 88 is considered very dangerous He was living with one of his brothers at the time he'd gotten sick, the had discovered they had a mold problem in the house. They called out Utah disaster and had everything affected cleared out and replaced. The lung specialists said there was no mold in his lungs. He informed us it was asthma and put him on breathing treatments and medications which only made his condition worse. We asked for oxygen to see if that would help but it wasn't helping either. His health was depleting and Dustin was working less and less. He started staying at my house over a year ago thinking that getting out of that house would help. Because his oxygen levels have been so low he has been struggling to get any sleep at night because it's so much worse then. He has gone days at a time without any sleep at all. It has been terrifying to the point of almost taking him to the emergency room many of times. Shortly thereafter his very close younger brother died in a car accident and Dustin's health continued to rapidly decline. These boys were practically twins. We had to do something more. We had a dear Doctor Johnson and his staff offer to give him sessions in the hyperbaric oxygen chambers to see if we could flood his body with oxygen from the outside in. He went 2 times a day for a total of four hours a day for a month which did not increase his oxygen level either. They also gave him Vitamin C IV's twice a week which I am sure helped his immune system. He also added nutritional IV's from Dr. Cameron to his regimen. I am sure that all of this and the excellent organic diet has been keeping him alive but not helping his oxygen levels go up at all!! One of the nose cultures Dr. Remmington did finally came back positive with MRSA! MRSA is an infection caused by a strain of staph bacteria that's become resistant to the antibiotics commonly used to treat ordinary staph infections. Dr. Remmington put him on a series of antibiotics and said it should clear things up. His oxygen levels and his breathing difficulties remained the same. We also went to Dr. Wright and did allergy testing and a series of Ultraviolet and ozone IV's and more mold treatment. He seemed to be making small improvements!! He was sent to Dr. Wall a biological dentist who took a 3D scan of his whole head and said that all of his sinus cavities were completely blocked and that he had very bad decay all through his mouth. We had been focusing so heavily on his lungs in the past this helped us to see that maybe the root of the problem might be his sinuses? We then took him to an ENT Dr. Davis who sent us to another ENT Specialist up at the University of Utah who said he definitely needs sinus surgery. We tried to schedule the surgery right then, but they wouldn't let us without him having insurance or a 50% down payment! With the surgery costing $30.000 that was out of the question right then! We had already drained all of our funds with all of the previous doctor bills and treatments. We called Medicaid,they said there are no programs available for a 28 year old with no dependants that is not permanently disabled. We have applied for financial assistance and charity at the hospital with no response. But we strongly believe that God is in charge of all the money in the universe and if he wants Dustin to have this surgery he will provide the way. We will keep going through the doors that God opens and pray that he keeps the ones closed that we are not suppose to go through!!! We have talked to many since then that have had the sinus surgery and had to go back and have it again and again with lots of nose bleeds while being on steroids ever since to keep the inflammation down! Maybe God has something else in mind for Dustin! He is definitely getting an education from the school of HARD KNOCKS!! He is amazing how he keeps moving forward with such a positive attitude as he struggles to get enough oxygen to breathe with little to no sleep!! It has been so heartbreaking to witness!! His Dad heard about a proxy treatment from a customer in our store called John of God. He researched it through Wayne Dyers website that he was directed to. Dustin has been following that protocol as well as getting his dental decay addressed, doing nasal balloon treatments from Dr. Buehler and doing the Bob Beck protocol on his sinuses and lungs, among a lot of other natural methods and a very restricted diet. Dustin woke up one morning and said, "Mom I need to change the water I drink and start doing an abundance of fermented foods of our own making!!" I said okay how do we make fermented foods? That very day the Cameron Wellness Center called and said we are having a class on fermented foods and was wondering if Dustin was interested in attending it that very next week? I said, "definitely, sign us up!" Then we heard that Real Foods market was having a fermentation class that next Saturday! After going to the first class and referencing a book called Wild Fermentation, we thought that we would try this out. Feeling quite overwhelmed, our daughter Megan called that morning and wanted to come over and spend time with Dustin and asked what we were doing that day, When I told her she said I would love to come help you we learned all that in culinary school!! Wow!! When the student is ready the teacher appears, from everywhere!! That also verifies, once again, how Gods hand is directing our every step!! Dustin's diet has been becoming more and more limited everyday because most foods take all of his energy to digest, making it even more difficult to breathe!!! He has been living off of mostly juices, green drinks, and organic apples and berries for some time now! He has lost over 70 lbs!!! He has found that adding fermented foods to every meal he can digest things better and has added back wild fish and various other organic foods!! He is focusing on building up his gut ecology through these fermented foods. Expecting that eventually his colonies of good guys will be so strong that the bad guys will be eventually be overtaken!! After all your gut is your second brain!! He got another cat scan of his sinuses and he is making progress!! Dr. Wright just got back from a training where he learned to inject ozone directly into the sinuses which should get rid of any more bacteria, strep, and staph that are still being housed there. We are anxiously waiting for him to get the equipment that he ordered in! We have recently met a Dr. Tracy Gibbs and have started him on high enzyme therapy and immune modulating, which we pray will help him soon! Any other information or donations would be very much so appreciated! This whole experience has included lots of pain and suffering! Lots of emotions! Lots of healing and education! Experiences that have caused us to grow that we will never ever forget!! The greatest of healers have had their own Gethsemane and been on their death bed!! We are so grateful for these experiences and what they are teaching us!! God has been so good to us and we know that he will continue to guide us every step of the way!!! We hope that we in some way can help to inspire and guide others to their own healing through what we have learned!!
