There are many benefits of doodling for self-care. Check out how doodling can be therapeutic for YOU:
1) Reduces Stress & Anxiety: The rhythmic, repetitive motion of doodling acts as a "pressure valve" to release tension.
2) Improves Focus: It keeps the brain "online" and engaged enough to prevent mind-wandering, improving concentration.
3) Enhances Mindfulness: It grounds you in the present moment.
4) Boosts Creativity: It allows for "unfocus" circuits in the brain to work, aiding in creative problem-solving.
5) Accessible: It requires no special skills or expensive materials, only paper and a pen or pencil.
Here's How to Start a Doodling Practice for Self-Care:
Keep a dedicated notebook, pens, or colored pencils in one place, making it easy to grab and start immediately.
Set a Timer: Dedicate just 5–10 minutes for a "doodle break" to reset during a busy day.
Use Simple Shapes: Focus on repetitive patterns like circles, lines, swirls, or geometric shapes.
Draw Without Judgement: Focus on the process, not the final product. Imperfections are fine; the goal is relaxation, not perfection.
Try "BreathDoodles": Combine mindful breathing with slow, deliberate drawing to enhance the calming effects. Take a few minutes out of your busy day to doodle for self-care and remember, it's the DASH that counts!

Dr. Alexa Irene Canady (born November 7, 1950) is a retired American neurosurgeon, medical educator, and public health advocate. In 1987, she was appointed chief of neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, where she served until her retirement in 2001. In addition to her pioneering surgical career, Canady was also a professor at Wayne State University and co-developer of a programmable antisiphon shunt system for the treatment of hydrocephalus. She was and is FIRE!

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Oslo, Norway.

Pressure point massage on hands and feet, often called reflexology, involves applying pressure to specific points that map to other areas of the body, promoting relaxation, stress relief, improved circulation, and pain reduction by stimulating the flow of energy. For self-care, you can use your thumbs to massage arches, balls of feet, and toes in circular motions, applying firm pressure, and stimulating points like on the inner wrist for relief of nausea and anxiety (think motion sickness bands). Other key benefits of practicing reflexology as part of your self-care regimen include improved mood and sleep and enhanced energy and digestion. Using firm pressure is generally better than light, but check in with yourself for comfort. Also, scheduling sessions consistently can yield deeper benefits. Use reflexology or self massage as a compliment to medical treatments, NOT as a replacement. Remember, it's the DASH that counts!

US civil rights pioneer Claudette Colvin, arrested at age 15 for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white woman in Montgomery, Alabama, nine months before Rosa Parks’s similar but more famous act of defiance, died on Tuesday at age 86.
Although she remained a largely unsung figure in the civil rights movement for decades, Colvin’s 1955 act of rebellion inspired Parks and others and helped form the basis for the federal lawsuit that outlawed racial segregation in US public transportation. She was FIRE! Rest in power.
