SPARC The mission of SPARC Guidance is to help families and communities in underserved populations expand their knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of autism.

Awareness. Acceptance. Affirmation. While many amazing therapies and approaches exist for those on the spectrum, we noticed that these approaches were narrowed to mostly identifying the negative aspects of autism (and often people in general) to correct them. Many clients and their families have shown themselves to have a wide range of abilities, gifts, and positive attributes that often get ignored. SPARC wishes to correct this oversight by helping individuals identify their areas of intelligence outside of the standard definition. In addition to this, we see a slowly growing trend in the corporate world to add autistic individuals to their workforce. We hope to support these efforts by providing trainings that help expand the companies' views of autism. We also hope to incorporate autistic individuals into all of these goals and services, as we believe in the idea of "for us, by us."

I recently took a trip to visit three of the four Universal Orlando parks, and I'm coming back with some tips and tricks for potential neurodivergent adventurers! I will be posting some reels, stories, and regular posts over the next week exploring Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and of course Epic Universe through this lens.

First Tip: If you can, stay on grounds at a Universal resort. You get amazing bus service between the parks, hotels, and CityWalk, along with early entry to Islands and Epic. The early entry, as I'll explain later, is a game changer to avoid crowds/long wait times.

Families come from many different cultural backgrounds, and when autism is part of the picture, it’s important to approach with understanding and respect.

I’ve put together a free quick guide that highlights five things to consider when working with culturally diverse families who have an autistic family member.

🚨 Drowning is the leading cause of death for young autistic children, but it doesn't have to be.

In this latest episode of SPARC Out, I spoke to Anna Stewart of the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County about all things water safety. She gave a wealth of knowledge and tips, from pool and beach safety to the Coalition's voucher program for swimming lessons. 🏊

For day, I spoke with Meichico, a mother of autistic twins, about the impact recent FL Medicaid changes had on her twins' services and how she navigated it. We got pretty passionate during this episode!

Part 1, where I spoke with Christian of Look Up Therapy about how providers handled the changes, is also on the podcast.

Very good news to hear.

Starting next week, a Palm Beach County hospital will no longer accept Baker Act patients under the age of 12, underscoring a critical need for mental health resources in the county for children.

I created a little infographic for teachers, daycare staff, and other providers on how to identify (and work on) some developmental delays that they may see. Click below in the comments to check it out! Next week, I'll have one on the difference between tantrums and (autism/sensory) meltdowns.
