Background screening requirements now apply to all physicians

Beginning July 1, 2025, all physicians renewing their license must complete the updated background-screening and fingerprinting requirements under HB 975 (2024). This change removes previous exemptions for physicians licensed before 2013.

Processing times are already delayed.

Physicians are encouraged to start early to avoid renewal issues.

Milestone Moment!

We are proud to highlight that the Transplantation at Mayo Clinic in Florida has performed its 10,000th transplant since the program began in 1998.

This extraordinary achievement speaks directly to the impact of transplantation on kidney health and patient lives.

Let’s celebrate this achievement and honor the donors, families, clinicians, and patients whose journeys reflect hope, healing, and resilience.

On October 29, the Transplant Center at Mayo Clinic in Florida celebrated its 10,000th transplant since launching in 1998 — a powerful testament to lives transformed through organ donation.

With over 465 procedures performed in 2025 alone, Mayo Clinic continues to lead in multiorgan transplants and care for complex conditions across its campuses in Florida, Arizona, and Minnesota.

“Every transplant tells a story of teamwork, trust, and commitment,” says Dr. Burcin Taner, Chair of Transplantation. “Together, we're shaping the next era of transplantation — one defined by innovation, collaboration, and compassion.” Read more: https://mayocl.in/4pcmaOL

Incredible example of compassion and leadership in action.

Actor Jesse Eisenberg is donating a kidney to a stranger this December, turning his long-standing commitment to giving blood into an extraordinary act of generosity.

More than 90,000 people in the U.S. are currently waiting for a kidney transplant. Stories like this remind us of the profound impact one person can make.

Three major hospital systems have challenged a new state proposal about approving organ-transplant programs, alleging it does not include adequate safeguards for quality of care.

Tampa General Hospital, UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami filed the challenges after the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration in August issued a proposed rule for transplant programs.

The challenges, filed this month at the state Division of Administrative Hearings, came after years of debate and disputes about approving transplant programs.
