It's been a wild ride. I remember when I once wandered through life on auto pilot; lost without purpose and unfulfilled. I was full of negativity and bitterness. I had always been familiar with yoga and meditation and a healthy lifestyle but there was still an influx of things that were poisoning my soul and I hadn't quite truly experienced the power of a group yoga class. Eight years ago I became so desperate that I was finally able to surrender and choose a more enlightened path. A path full of opportunity and room for growth. I emptied my small savings into a yoga teacher training and into the world of uncertainty. I've been teaching for 7 years now and have added other wellness modalities to my career. I took the plunge and started the journey to become a licensed massage therapist which has allowed me to make a living doing purely what I love for the last 4 yrs. During all this transitioning I changed my major in school and in May, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (over a decade long journey!). Upon graduation, I got accepted into a Dietetic distance internship. But the last couple of months have been challenging. A distance internship isn't all packaged up with a pretty bow on it. It's my job to find preceptors (professionals willing to train me in the field) to fulfill my required rotations. A lot of people didn't respond to me and I also received a lot of rejections. Then last month, one of my yoga studios closed and I found out this month my other yoga studio is closing next week. I'm not gonna lie, I felt hopeless and defeated. But like clockwork, once a couple of doors closed, one GIANT door opened for me. I have been offered a PAID intern job with NFAN (Northeast Florida Aids Network)- which serves my area of focus (HIV/Aids nutrition), and it will cover half of my rotations. With all that being said, I'm going to take a pause from teaching while I focus on my internship and becoming registered as a dietitian. It truly is bitter sweet. It all started with yoga. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for yoga. Yoga not only changed my life, it saved my life! It brought me direction, purpose, and fulfillment. ππ
