I'm truly HONORED to work alongside Michelle at Heart 2 Heart!
“As I was taking care of a woman in the wee early hours of her postpartum she turned and said, “what a profession to choose, cleaning up blood and p**p, seeing birth all the time in all of its variations, checking placentas, constantly being on call. I don’t think I could do it.”
I shrugged my shoulders. I didn’t really know what to say.
As I sat there on the ground at her feet, sitting on a shower curtain to protect the floor while waiting for her placenta, I thought about Jesus when he washed the disciples feet. Taking on the role of a servant.
Some people think midwifery is glamorous. They think we hold babies and sit around birth tubs chatting.
The real truth: it is a privilege. A privilege to hold a woman’s hand, whispering encouragements to her as she roars her baby earthside. A privilege to scoop poo from her backside as she opens to bring forth new life. A privilege to wipe her down afterwards, praising her for the hard work she did. A privilege to be invited into such a sacred space.
The truth is, I’m not sure I chose midwifery, I truly believe it chose me.
There have been days I’ve been bone tired, overwhelmed, and have wanted to quit more times than I can count.”

And God…
I thank you for the families who trust us to be a part of their journey into new parenthood. For skills learned and used and for your hands guiding mine when I needed it most. For the rest when I truly am bone tired and need it. For the friends I have made along the way. Please continue to bless the midwives as they do the work they’ve been called to do.
Thank you all for the career I’ve been blessed with. It’s been an honor that I hope to pass down soon to someone who will dedicate themselves to this as much as I have and keep the legacy of midwifery and birth work alive and thriving to serve many!
