What does “CPAP compliance” actually mean?

If you’ve been prescribed CPAP therapy, you may hear the word compliance come up early on.

CPAP compliance means using your machine often enough for it to actually help treat your sleep apnea. For Medicare, that typically means using your CPAP for at least 4 hours a night on 70% of nights. Compliance tracking usually starts after your first 31 days, which gives you time to adjust and get more comfortable.

That early window is important. Starting to use your CPAP as soon as you receive it helps you build the habit, work through any comfort issues, and stay on track long term.

Keep in mind, other insurance plans may have different requirements. If you are unsure what your plan expects, it’s always okay to ask.

Adjusting to CPAP takes time. Questions and challenges are normal. The goal is progress, not perfection, and better sleep is worth it.

Caregiving comes from the heart, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. In the middle of supporting someone else, it is easy to put your own needs last.

This Stress Awareness Month, we want to take a moment to recognize caregivers and gently remind you that your wellbeing matters too. Small moments of rest, accepting support, and checking in with yourself are not selfish. They are essential.

Thank you for the care, patience, and compassion you give every day. Taking care of yourself helps you continue taking care of the people who rely on you. 💙

🚫 Myth: If CPAP doesn’t feel right immediately, it’s probably not for you.
✅ Fact: Most CPAP and BiPAP struggles are fixable.

Mask discomfort, dryness, pressure concerns, and leaks are some of the most common reasons people feel frustrated early on. In most cases, the issue is fit or setup, not the therapy itself. There are many mask styles and comfort options available, and small adjustments can make a big difference.

If sleep therapy feels hard at first, it does not mean you are failing. It means you may need a little extra support to find what works best for your body and sleep habits.

✈️Planning summer travel with oxygen? A little preparation goes a long way.

Traveling with oxygen is absolutely doable, and many people do it every day. The key is planning ahead so you can focus on enjoying the trip, not worrying about your equipment.

Before you go, it helps to:

👉Connect with your oxygen provider early to plan for portable equipment or delivery at your destination
👉 Ask about airline requirements and any documentation needed if you are flying
👉 Pack smart with extra batteries and chargers, backup tubing and nasal cannulas, and power adapters for your car, hotel, or rental

With support and preparation in place, travel does not have to feel intimidating. Rotech has locations across the country and can help coordinate oxygen support wherever your plans take you.

Living with both COPD and heart failure?

Managing these conditions together can be confusing. They often occur side by side, and their symptoms can overlap in ways that make day‑to‑day care feel harder than it should.
With the right information and support, many people are able to manage both conditions at home.

Take a look at how COPD and heart failure are linked, how to tell the symptoms apart, and how to get support at home:

COPD and heart failure often occur together. Learn how symptoms overlap, what to watch for, and how Rotech helps patients manage both.

Small steps, thoughtful planning, and safe habits can help support confidence, independence, and peace of mind as you spend more time outside or on the go this season. Staying active does not have to mean pushing too hard. It means moving in ways that feel right for you.

“How long does it take to get used to CPAP or BiPAP?”

For many people, it takes a few weeks to adjust. That adjustment period often includes trial and error, learning new habits, and getting comfortable sleeping with a mask. Consistent use and early troubleshooting can help make the transition smoother.

The first 90 days are especially important. That’s when you are building routines, meeting insurance requirements, and learning how to make therapy work for your life. Having access to education and ongoing support during this time can help keep small challenges from turning into reasons to give up.

Better sleep is possible, and we're here to support you!

Stress does not just affect your mood. It can also change how your body breathes.

When stress levels rise, breathing can become faster or more shallow. For people managing respiratory conditions like COPD or asthma, this can make breathing feel more uncomfortable or tiring than usual.

The good news is that awareness can help. Paying attention to stress levels, practicing slow breathing, and taking time to rest can support both emotional wellbeing and respiratory comfort. Managing stress is not about eliminating it completely. It is about finding small, healthy ways to support your body.

At Rotech, we support people living with chronic conditions by helping care fit into everyday life. Understanding how stress affects breathing is one more step toward feeling more in control and supported.

Did you know CPAP doesn’t just stop snoring? It actually improves your sleep.

✅ Snoring relief is just a side effect.
The real job of CPAP is treating sleep apnea at its source.

When you have sleep apnea, your airway partially or completely collapses during sleep. Your body has to work overtime to keep breathing, even if you don’t fully wake up. That constant disruption keeps you from getting the deep, restorative sleep your body needs.

💨 CPAP keeps your airway open all night long.
The gentle air pressure prevents those collapses before they happen.

✨ What that can mean for you:
Better quality sleep
More energy during the day
Improved focus and overall health

Stress and sleep affect each other more than many people realize. When stress is high, it can be harder to fall asleep or stay asleep. Over time, poor sleep can increase stress, lower energy, and affect overall wellbeing.

For people living with sleep apnea, this cycle can feel especially challenging. The good news is that understanding the connection is a powerful first step. Supportive routines, stress awareness, and consistent sleep therapy can help improve comfort and sleep quality over time.

At Rotech, we are here to help make sleep therapy easier and more manageable so you can focus on getting the rest your body needs.
