Instead of ED (eating disorder recovery)

Instead of ED (eating disorder recovery) a pro-recovery place for those affected by eating disorders or disordered eating. This page was created out of need. That's what this page is for.

Sometimes when wanting to engage in ED behavior it's hard to think of what to do instead. This is a group endeavor that further demonstrates that we never have to do this alone. I also have a FB account that covers many other areas of ED recovery. You can send me a friend request at "ANAD Lori Licker"

Here's your encouragement for the day. We can talk about it two different ways. Which one(s) do you relate to and/or which one(s) have you overcome? I know that sometimes I'll get caught up in feeling like i said something wrong. In the other hand, I have no problem enjoying time alone. OK. Your turn 😊 -lori

I know bingeing is an issue for many with different EDs and I hope this helps with some of the guilt. Part of the reason that it happens is because of dieting or restricting. Overeating can be a biological response and then guilt and shame gets you caught in a cycle. Part of the answer is consistently giving your body nourishment so it trusts that it doesn't have to gather as much as possible to sustain itself. And to those in the back row, I know that it's easier said than done. BUT it is possible. Trust the process from those who have come before you. Sending care your way, lori

I admit that I had a difficult time loving my body when I viewed it as the way I look - especially since I gained a great deal of weight from medical complications & illnesses. My mindset changed when I viewed it as respect. I not only respect my body but I admire its strength & resilience. What are your thoughts on this subject? -lori

This is not just for people with ARFID, but really anyone with ED. Let's build upon favorite or "safe" foods. Add in something new to try. I think the slogan for this year should be "fed is best." What do you think? -lori

For those of you who have work(ed) your recovery with Registered Dieticians, what do/ did you like best? If you don't have one, what would you liked them to help you with? It's a belated Happy RD day and I've been blessed to work with several wonderful RDs. If anyone knows about a movement to get insurance companies to cover for more dx than diabetes, let me know. A special shout out to my favorite dietician- Amy Tuttle. If you're in the Philly area, I see that she has groups & events. Let me know & I'll pass on the info. Otherwise I'll meet you down in the comments. -lori

More on body checking... this is from an RD who is commenting on the practice of taking measurements of ED clients. Btw, to be clear, she's against doing it. Besides doing weights, is that really a thing?

I'd add to that, if you've spent all of those years with an ED, how long do you think it will take to heal/ recover from one? It takes time to undo all of that damage, but it's possible AND it's worth it. -lori
