Private practice. Purpose-driven. Powerhouses. And yes, they look fabulous doing it.

Dr. Hope O’Brien and Dr. Belinda Savage-Edwards are not only brilliant neurologists, they’re trailblazers who are redefining leadership in medicine. Like me, they’ve chosen the path of private practice, and they’re building something extraordinary for their patients and communities.

Grateful for this sisterhood and all the energy, brilliance, and style they bring to the field.

I walked into the Women Leading in Neurology program looking for growth… and walked out with a sisterhood.

These women are not just some of the top neurologists in the country, they’re bold, brilliant, kind, and deeply committed to lifting each other up. I’m so proud to call them friends, mentors, and co-leaders in this journey.

Here’s to leading with purpose, passion, and a whole lot of love. The future of neurology is in powerful hands, and I’m honored to be one of them.

Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. Keep breaking barriers, lifting each other up, and making an impact!

Honoring Women Around the World: A Message from Dr. Lourdes Benes on International Women’s Day:

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women across the globe. As a physician, entrepreneur, wife and mother, I am constantly inspired by the incredible women I work with and those I have the privilege to care for.

Women have always played a vital role in shaping families, communities, and industries—including medicine. Yet, we continue to push for greater representation, equity, and recognition in all aspects of life. Together, we uplift, empower, and create opportunities for the next generation of women leaders.

To my fellow women in medicine, to the caregivers, the advocates, the mothers, daughters, and sisters—your dedication and impact matter. Today, we celebrate you. Keep breaking barriers, keep making history, and never stop believing in the power of your voice.

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜

Exciting Week at the American Academy of Neurology Conference in Denver!

I had the privilege of attending this year’s American Academy of Neurology Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado. The lectures were enlightening, and the speakers were truly inspirational. It’s vital to stay current in our field, and this event definitely provided that opportunity.

I’m especially proud to be a part of the prestigious Women Leading in Neurology Program. Being among such brilliant, astute, and formidable women is truly humbling and invigorating. Each day was a new opportunity to learn and grow alongside leaders who are shaping the future of neurology.

A heartfelt thank you to the AAN and President Carlaynee Jackson, MD, FAAN for organizing such an impactful conference. I’m already looking forward to next year!

ABOUT ME

I am a Fellowship trained neurologist specializing in Cognitive & Behavioral Disorders as well as Movement Disorders. I am part of Neurology One’s multidisciplinary team that cares for patients and family members dealing with conditions such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Dystonia and Alzheimer’s. I have been practicing neurology for over a decade. I am also a faculty member at UCF College of Medicine where I lecture our future physicians on numerous topics in neurology.

I am experienced in clinical procedures such as botulinum toxin injections (migraine headaches, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm and spasticity), occipital nerve blocks, trigger point injections and lumbar puncture as well as on the interpretation of electroencephalograms.

I am a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Association, Movement Disorders Society and Florida Medical Association. I am currently doing clinical research and have published articles on scientific journals as well as give educational lectures at numerous venues to physicians and patients alike.

My family and I live in Orlando, FL where we enjoy an active lifestyle raising our three kids. I am honored to have followed in my father’s footsteps of becoming a physician as he is an OBGYN and yes, he delivered my three babies as well as all of his grandchildren. My mother is special human being who instilled in me the faith and work ethic I a follow daily. My father in law has been great influence in my career as well. He is a neurologist with 45 plus years of experience and still going on strong. When I can, I enjoy playing tennis, exercising and traveling. I am blessed to have married my college sweetheart, Eduardo, who is an investment advisor.
