In my practice, I often hear parents say things like:
✨ “My child should be reading by now.”
✨ “Mine should be able to sit still.”
✨ “Mine should be less emotional.”
✨ “Mine should be more interested in sports/activities.”
..And let's be real, I find myself getting wrapped up in the comparison game with my own kids. It's hard not to in this competitive, on-the-go world we live in! We all want the best for our kids, but sometimes we forget that every child grows, learns, and shines in their own unique time and way.
Let’s focus on who our kids are becoming instead of all the "shoulds." Ecourage their curiosity, support their passions, give them tools to work through what's challenging, and celebrate their progress, no matter the pace.
Whether they’re learning their ABCs or taking their first swing in a new sport, what really matters is that they feel loved, supported, and free to grow into the amazing individuals they’re meant to be. 🫶
