Gingerbread house or cookies need icing!
Cinnamon rolls need a glaze!
Yes, this is all extra sugar, but I had to realize they bring so much joy for kiddos!! I have some tricks for you to make them less evil and also more workable.
1) Use organic powdered sugar - save on the chemicals, pesticides, and GMOs (Family Baking Kit comes with organic powdered sugar)
2) Up to 50% you can substitute powdered sugar with tapioca flour
I get lots of questions how to decorate gingerbread cookies and houses so here are my secrets to the perfect icing. (Recipes also come with the Family Baking Kit bundle). TIP 1: Little lemon juice is the secret ingredient.
It will give a little zing to the flavor profile while also make your icing shinier.
TIP 2: If you wish to add some festive colors.....to make decorating even more fun for the kiddos ... we love using green spriulina or chlorella as green and beet powder for red.
TIP 3: As for piping..... well, we tried the good ol' ziplock bag version, and we had icing all over the place. They tend to be to thin, so when small hands work it they can apply too much pressure and blop there goes all icing on one cookie. So we have been using proper, one time use piping bags. I don't have any plastic in my kitchen - besides these babes. I really dislike to clean them... so we either use these or don't pipe around.
