As many of you know, my background is in education. Teaching has always shaped how I learn by listening, asking questions, and staying curious.

I learn so much from my exceptional clients that I see in my studio: the patterns I notice, the conditions we talk through, and the questions that come up again and again. Those conversations shape how I continue to learn, both for my clients and for my own family.

When I share something about wellness, it’s usually because it’s something I’m actively learning, exploring, or finding helpful in real life.

Lately, I’ve been learning more about hydration, mineral balance, lymphatic support, detoxing, and blood sugar regulation.

Feeling puffy or bloated lately? Read on...

🌿 Spirulina + Gentle Detox Support

Your body is detoxing every single day through your liver, kidneys, gut, skin, and lymph system. Sometimes it just needs a little nutritional support.

One plant-based ally that’s been getting a lot of attention lately is spirulina, a blue-green algae rich in minerals, antioxidants, and plant protein.

What is spirulina (pronounced spi-ri-lina)?

🌱Spirulina is a nutrient-rich blue-green algae known for its high protein content and numerous health benefits. It is rich in plant-based protein, minerals, antioxidants, and chlorophyll; nutrients that support hydration, liver function, and inflammation balance.

🌱What does spirulina do for your body?

*Binds to heavy metals and helps the body es**rt them out

*Supports liver function, your main detox organ

*Reduces oxidative stress & inflammation

*Supports immune health and digestion

*Helps regulate blood sugar levels

One of my favorite ways to incorporate spirulina is in a homemade electrolyte drink. Especially helpful during sauna use, bodywork recovery, seasonal fatigue, and during sporting events.

So instead of purchasing those fancy, expensive, high in sugar, and sodium electrolyte sports drinks that have questionable additives including artificial sweeteners and dyes try a natural alternative that supports and promotes a healthy body.

⚡Homemade Electrolyte Drink with Spirulina⚡

Ingredients

16–20 oz filtered water or coconut water

Juice of ½ lemon and lime (You can add more if you like.)

¼ –½ tsp high-quality sea salt (for electrolytes)

½–1 tsp local honey (I like to use 1 TBPS Monk Fruit.)

½ –1 tsp spirulina powder

Great for hydration without artificial dyes or additives.

Where can you get spirulina? The Health Connection Health Food Store located at 314 A Ave E Oskaloosa. 📍

EXCITING NEWS FOR SACRAL GROUND CLIENTS

Vitamin B6: When “Too Much of a Good Thing” Isn’t Helpful

Many people don’t realize that excess vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) can actually contribute to nerve irritation and neuropathy-like symptoms.

What clients may notice:

*Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet

*Burning or “pins and needles” sensations

*Sensitivity to touch

*Balance or coordination changes

While B6 is essential for nerve health, chronic high doses—often from supplements or energy drinks—can overwhelm the nervous system, leading to symptoms that closely resemble peripheral neuropathy.

Why this matters:
B6 toxicity doesn’t usually come from food—it almost always comes from long-term supplementation, sometimes at levels people don’t even realize they’re taking when stacking multivitamins, B-complexes, and fortified drinks.

🌿 A gentle reminder:
More is not always better. If you’re experiencing nerve-related symptoms, it may be worth:

*Reviewing your supplements

*Checking labels for cumulative B6

*Talking with your healthcare provider about appropriate levels

From a bodywork perspective:
When nerves are irritated, the body often holds protective tension. Massage can support circulation, calm the nervous system, and help clients reconnect with what their body is communicating—but understanding why symptoms are present is just as important.

Education is part of wellness. Listening to the body is part of healing.

This bitter cold we’re having here in Iowa doesn’t just stay outside, it shows up in the body.

When temperatures drop this low, muscles naturally tighten to conserve heat, circulation can slow, and joints often feel stiffer or more achy. Many people notice more neck, back, and hip tension during stretches like this, along with lower energy or heavier moods from shorter, darker days.

Massage and sauna can be especially supportive right now. Massage helps ease muscle guarding and calm the nervous system, while sauna gently warms the body from the inside out, improving circulation and helping everything soften a bit.

If you’re feeling more stiff, tense, or run down lately, you’re not imagining it and you’re not alone. Intentional care can make a real difference during this kind of cold.

🔥Sauna sessions can be added to massage with online booking.

Full circle moment 🌿💚
Body Wisdom is where I found my people and my calling when I chose massage over the classroom I once knew. Sitting in those classrooms as a student changed the direction of my life.

Getting to go back as an instructor, bringing together my background in education and experience in my own private practice, fills my teaching bucket in the most meaningful way. I’m deeply grateful for this community, the mentors who poured into me, and the opportunity to give back to a place that gave me so much and helped me find my purpose.
