Ottumwa Regional has 10 specialty clinics in Ottumwa and Eddyville. We got a chance to talk with Randall who works as a Medical Assistant at our Urology Clinic.

Randall said, “I love my job at ORHC because of my ability to help people of this community. Our community may be people from Ottumwa, Eddyville, Fairfield, Oskaloosa, Pella, Bloomfield or even Missouri. When I see a patient at Walmart while I’m grocery shopping, having them come up to me in the middle of the store, shake my hand and tell me ‘Thank you for helping me schedule my surgery, you made it a great experience” this gives me a sense of pride and a sense of accomplishment that I’ve done something to help our community. Or simply hearing a patient in the clinic tell me after I’ve drawn their blood “very good job young man, you were the best, I will ask for you in the future!’ This gives me such pride in doing a great job and helping that member of the community have a great experience at ORHC.

Another reason I love my job is the people I work with. Everyone from the other medical assistants, providers, managers, to the people I don’t know personally that work at ORHC. We ALL WORK TOGETHER to get the help OUR patients need. This is something that I keep in my mind daily, we ALL need help and we ALL deserve help, we ALL care about each other, we are ALL ORHC.”

If you’re looking for a workplace where you can provide quality care for your community, maybe it’s time you looked at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Our Clinics are now hiring for Registered Nurse, Certified Medical Assistant and Patient Service Rep.

Did you know that Ottumwa Regional has an Nursing Student Extern program for area nursing students? Students will shadow experienced RNs in different departments to gain valuable experience and insight into how each unit works. We got a chance to chat with one of our externs, Christabel.

Christabel said, “Working at ORHC as a Nursing Student Extern has been an incredible learning experience. I’ve had the opportunity to observe a wide range of procedures, from OR cases and C-sections to Cath Lab interventions, which have been valuable both for my academic growth and clinical skills. What makes this experience even better is the openness of the patients, many of whom are happy to let students follow their care, which truly enhances my learning. The nurses here are always willing to teach, and the leaders across departments make sure students are included in great learning opportunities. They’re approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in our development. I’ve particularly enjoyed working in the ICU, PACU, ER, and Surgical Services, where each department feels like a close-knit family. The Med-Surg, BHU, and OB/Women & Family teams also provide great teamwork and support. In Surgical Services, the whole team is eager to teach, always ensuring students are in the best spots to observe, and the nurses explain procedures as they happen, making the experience even more enriching. Plus, the lunch breaks felt like a family gathering, creating a true sense of community. I’m proud to be part of such a supportive and dynamic environment.”

If you’re looking for a workplace with approachable, supportive and invested coworkers, maybe it’s time you looked at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Our Nurse Extern program is now hiring nursing students.
