Issued at 8:15 AM MDT, Wednesday, August 13, 2025

Affected Area: Ouray, Hinsdale, San Juan, San Miguel, eastern Dolores, and northern Montezuma Counties.

Advisory in Effect: 9:00 AM MDT, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 to 9:00 AM MDT, Thursday, August 14, 2025

Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. The heaviest smoke impacts will likely be in eastern Dolores and northern Montezuma Counties within close vicinity of the fire during the overnight and early morning hours, including the communities of Rico and Dolores.

⚠ Hello community! We are receiving an increase in calls to our office regarding cats and bats. These two don't mix.

🐱 When a cat catches a bat, it can be a concerning situation for both the cat owner and the animals involved. Bats are an essential part of the ecosystem, playing a vital role in controlling insect populations and pollinating plants. However, they can also carry diseases such as rabies, which can be transmitted to other animals through bites or scratches. Please make sure your cat(s) are up-to-date on their rabies vaccines!
