So many benefits of meditation. These are just a few.

Imagine reducing the toll of stress on your body? What impact would that make on your life, your work?

Would you be interested in improving your health by simply spending a few minutes with your thoughts each day?

Your mind is playing a constant thought reel every day, and often times you aren’t even aware of it.

Learn to harness the power of awareness at my upcoming workshop for nurses.

The biggest misconception about meditation 👇

You have to release thoughts or quiet your mind. Nope, not true.

Your mind will wander, or dwell, or jump from one thought to the next. That is just the nature of the human mind.

Meditation is about noticing what your mind is doing. The noticing is the beauty of meditation.

The practice of sitting with your thoughts without judgment builds awareness and self-compassion - a very useful skill when you’ve made a mistake and part of you is saying the entire day is ruined because of it, for example. 😉

Join me for my free workshop - Meditation 101 - where you’ll learn how to observe your thoughts with compassion and patience.

I refuse to give up on this plant đŸŒ±đŸ˜‚

I don’t remember when I bought her but we had a rough start that involved a tumble down the ikea escalator.

Since then she’s taken a few more tumbles, had a bout of root rot, several close encounters with kids and pets, too much sun, not enough sun, a warm draft (the most deadly of her experiences), many leaves lost and some slowly regained.

We had an unfortunate repotting experience that required consultation with a local nursery.

First the pot was too small, then too big. This weekend I noticed the pot was too small again (I think).

I also noticed the several intertwined trunks common to the money tree (or Pachira aquatica, if you’re smart like that) were dead. All of them.

I kinda knew for a while, but the time finally felt right to cut them away, so I chopped at them with the blind confidence of a mediocre-at-best plant mama.

So here she is - solo trunk, new pot, and some new growth.

I refuse to give up on her because of the poetic symbolism she provides (and she tolerates my amateur mistakes).
Thanks money tree 💚

Nurses:

Have you ever wondered when healthcare will be fixed?

Have you taken a look at lop-sided patient ratios and thought "something's gotta give"?

Have you felt heartache over the number of nurses experiencing burnout?

While we wait for something, someone to fix a broken system, you simultaneously continue to provide outstanding care to patients. It feels incongruous sometimes, right?

Just as the seemingly opposing concepts of "broken system but great patient care" co-exist, so too can the concepts of great patient care and great care for self. It feels so so hard when you're exhausted both physically and emotionally. I know.

But nurses are taking a stand and changing the system by changing standards for themselves. It’s a revolution in nursing.

Think of how many patients you see everyday who would be so much better off if they could take better care of themselves. Maybe you've thought something similar of yourself.

"I have to find some time for myself"

"I can't keep staying late and picking up extra shifts"

"It's time to get serious about my eating, sleeping, stress, etc."

When you take action on those desires, you are changing the system. When you hold your boundaries and prioritize your family over work, you are changing the system. When you change the way you care for yourself, you are changing patient care.

This is something I help nurses do everyday. It feels big and difficult right now, but it doesn't have to be that way. Using a simple, focused process I can help you make self-care a no-brainer.

You’re overworked and understaffed. You get an admission in the 11th hour, and no one’s there to help you.

You can feel the tension in your muscles, and the frustration is palpable.

Your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do - mount a stress response.

Knowing that information doesn’t make it feel any better. But moving the stress out of your body will help.

SHIFT is my 1:1 program for women in healthcare, and we practice doing just that.

Book a free consultation call to take the first step in active management of your stress, so your mind has space for what you really want to focus on when the workday is through.

As with any new skill, it takes some practice to get comfortable with breathwork.

At first it might feel awkward or boring. But those feelings will pass as you start to experience the benefits of the practice.

If after some time you don’t feel any benefits or if you start to feel worse, you can choose to stop. If breathwork doesn’t work for you, that is ok!

In this self-healing wellness world of ours there can be an implicit (or explicit) message that if a healing modality is not working for you, you just need to try harder. No. Not true.

If you want to give it a go, I have an upcoming workshop for women in healthcare.

We’ll explore several breathing techniques in a trauma-informed mindful practice together.

They said to allow 1-4 weeks for processing but the acceptance letter came in just a few days.

So I’m doing this. I’M DOING THIS!

I remember sitting in my first trauma training something like nine years ago thinking trauma = PTSD = soldiers of war. (Spoiler: that is just one piece of a supersize puzzle).

Certainly *I* didn’t have trauma.

But thinking you don’t have trauma is like thinking you don’t have fingernails. Of course you do! And that’s ok. And hey your fingernails are uniquely yours.

I’ve learned so much (through countless hours of study and training) since then about trauma and its lasting, pervasive effects on our bodies and ultimately our lives. But there is always more to learn, and I feel so grateful and privileged to go deeper, expand my understanding, and practice, so I can assist my clients on the journey to accessing the immense joy, light, and FUN that lives on the other side of trauma recovery ❀‍đŸ©č
