Our triple board certified trained dermatologic surgeon and his all-star team serve the entire greater Kansas City metro area. Mohs surgery is a highly specialized treatment for the removal of skin cancer. Developed by Dr. Fredric Mohs, this method involves microscopic examination of the surgically removed skin tissues as well as detailed mapping techniques. By using this technique along with complete microscopic control, our physicians can pinpoint areas with cancer that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye; therefore, even the smallest roots of cancer can be removed from the skin with minimal sacrifice of healthy skin. The result: minimal removal of healthy tissue with the highest possible cure rate. Our physicians perform Mohs surgery in a pleasant office procedure room at Advanced Dermatologic Surgery, and the reconstruction portion is performed in an operating room in the adjacent, state licensed, Medicare-approved ADS Ambulatory Surgery Center. In this manner, we are better able to provide for your safety, and you may return home the same day. The percentage of cure using Mohs surgery by a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon is more than 99% for most skin cancers, even when other forms of treatment have failed. Other methods of treatment only offer a 50% chance of success if previous treatments have failed.

Timothy L. Parker, MD is board certified through the American Board of Dermatology, and is a fellow of the highly selective American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. Dr. Parker is a native of Des Moines, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa where he was an honors program scholarship recipient, an honors program member, and an inductee into 2 honor societies: Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega. He then attended medical school at the University of Iowa, where he graduated near the top of his class. He completed a 1-year internship in Internal Medicine and General Surgery at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona before performing 3 years of dermatology residency at Marquette University/Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He concluded his training with an intensive 1-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic and dermatologic surgery with one of the nation's premier cutaneous surgeons, John A. Zitelli, MD in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has been in practice in Kansas City since 1994. In addition to Mohs micrographic surgery, he has expertise in the area of facial reconstruction after skin cancer removal. During the course of his practice, he has performed more than 30,000 Mohs surgeries. In order to provide the best service possible to those afflicted with skin cancer, Dr. Parker limits his practice to malignant and some pre-malignant skin conditions; he does not provide general or cosmetic dermatologic services. Dr. Parker’s staff includes 3 registered nurses (RN), 2 surgical histo-technicians, plus several front office support staff members. Each member of his staff is dedicated to providing exceptional service to his patients in a caring and compassionate manner. He is married to Beth Parker, also from Des Moines, Iowa. They have 3 children, Samantha born in 1992, Nicholas born in 1994 and Madison born in 1997. In their free time, the Parkers are likely to be found attending their childrens’ numerous activities and sports. They also enjoy following the Royals, Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeyes athletics, golfing, traveling and supporting the fine arts. Professional Memberships
Dr. Parker is a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon who is a member of the highly selective American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the Metropolitan Medical Society, and the Kansas and Kansas City Dermatological Societies. Why Choose a Fellowship Trained Mohs Surgeon? Mohs micrographic surgery has set a new standard in skin cancer treatment. An increasing number of physicians are performing Mohs surgery, which is now widely accepted as the most effective treatment for most types of skin cancer. However, not all Mohs surgeons receive the same level of training as Dr. Parker, a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon. When it comes to your skin cancer treatment, you deserve no less than the best. Dr. Parker has achieved the highest degree of Mohs surgery qualification by completing an American College of Mohs Surgery approved fellowship. For you, this means peace of mind, knowing that you will receive superior quality and competency, as well as an optimal outcome. Dr. Timothy Parker and ACMS - Committed to Superior Care

The ACMS was established by Dr. Frederic Mohs himself, and its fellowship training program is generally acknowledged as the benchmark in Mohs surgery training. Through an extensive application and interview process, only the most qualified physicians are selected by ACMS to participate in a fellowship program. Participants must undergo a rigorous 1 to 2 year training program subsequent to completing a residency in dermatology. During fellowship training, Dr. Parker studied and trained under the guidance of veteran Mohs College surgeons who have demonstrated expertise in Mohs surgery. A cornerstone of the ACMS fellowship training program is cultivating experience and judgment in each graduate. Since skin cancer occurs in a diversity of forms, degrees and locations, the program is set up to be thorough and stringent. Dr. Parker met the following requirements in completing his ACMS fellowship:
Participated in a minimum of 500 Mohs surgery cases
Learned to accurately interpret slides of tissue samples removed during Mohs surgery
Performed a vast array of reconstructions, ranging from the simplest to the most complex, multi-step repairs
As an ACMS graduate, Dr. Parker gained an uncommon level of exposure, including everything from challenging tumor locations to rare tumor pathology and complex wound reconstruction. You can rest assured that he has the training and experience to achieve the best outcome from your skin cancer treatment.

Thomas L.H. Hocker, MD is dual board certified through the American Board of Dermatology for both general dermatology and dermatopathology, and is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. Dr. Hocker is a native of San Jose, California, and attended Yale University where he was a Verizon 1st Team Academic All-American scholar athlete in Track and Field, Yale Senior scholar athlete of the year, Pfizer Research Fellow, and an inductee into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Upon graduation, he was awarded the highly prestigious Churchill Fellowship, which afforded him the opportunity to pursue research at the University of Cambridge, where he received his Master's degree in Organic Chemistry. He then attended medical school at Harvard University, where he graduated with Honors for his research on melanoma. He completed a 1 year Transitional Internship at the Stanford University affiliated hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and subsequently received his dermatology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. At the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Hocker published numerous scholarly papers, presented at multiple national meetings, and twice scored in the top percentile in the Dermatology in-training examination, a test given to all residents across the nation. Upon graduation, Mayo Clinic named him the Harold O. Perry Most Outstanding Scholar, a distinction given only 3 times in the preceding 15 years. He subsequently traveled to the University of Michigan for his dermatopathology fellowship, one of the premier skin cancer treatment centers in the country. He concluded his many years of training by returning to the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) for an intensive 1-year fellowship in Mohs and reconstructive surgery, where he studied under many of the nation's premier cutaneous surgeons, including Drs. Randall Roenigk, Clark Otley, Chris Arpey, Christian Baum and Jerry Brewer. In addition to Mohs Micrographic Surgery, he has expertise in complex facial reconstructive surgery following skin cancer removal. Additionally, his dual mastery of dermatopathology and Mohs surgery has provided him with unique insight into challenging cases and has made him one of the country's young experts in rare skin tumors (adnexal neoplasms, atypical pigmented lesions, Spitz nevi and spitzoid lesions) and challenging rashes. Dr. Hocker is currently accepting patients with any dermatologic concern. In his free time, his favorite activity is to tap into his inner child while playing with his 3 beautiful little girls, Anjali, Avani and Akari. The family can frequently be spotted jumping around at the local bouncy house or Chuck E. He also loves to participate in Brazilian jiu jitsu and running.
